Sell everything; merge and liquidate

Post by Quinch »

If it's not much trouble, I'd like to see an option or command which, upon executing, would sell all your assets; all of them. Signs, roads, depots and any vehicles within, tracks, stations, if it's yours, it's sold/demolished. Vehicles and the terrain underneath might be exempt, since they can only be "sold" in depots. Ditto airports with inbound aircraft.

On a similar note, a "purchase and dissolve company" would also be useful, when you don't want to clean up the crud the AI has fouled the map with manually.

Could be a good idea for the subsidiaries patch aswell if you wanted to shutdown a subsidiary company but didn't want to mantain the assets...

Of course something like this would be disabled in Multiplayer! :)

Registered on these forums specifically to post this. Can we get a merge and liquidate button please?

Three and a half year gravedig, that's impressive. Anyway, with the NoAI framework, the need to sell the AI's completely idiotic things is lessened. Anyway, not a bad idea, but I don't think it's a high priority myself.

am i the only person that finds it funny that people get yelled at when they post an old suggestion "go use the search function", and when they do use the search function and post in the appropriate thread "do not bump old threads"?

No, but it wouldn't do any good to point it out, as you'll end with "You're off-topic" replies. Sad but true.

I wasn't complaining (other people might, but I'm not against gravedigging). One can easily not notice that there is a huge gap between a pair of posts which makes things confusing for them, and people end up posting stupid things. This helps everyone realise that this is an old thread. So I do wish if people posted in an old thread they were upfront about it to reduce confusion, but I don't complain about gavedigs.

And you have to realise the context of the "go search" response. Usually people getting that response are either after the answer to a question which has been answered before (so there is no need to post at all), or they are making a suggestion that has been made before (in which case there is no need to post at all).

I'm with you, Eddi, about that hypocritical "Don't bump, don't ask without searching" ideology that seems rampant throughout this forum; nothing here exasperates me more. But in CommanderZ's defense, he isn't one to crucify people for not using the search function; he's pretty easygoing about it, especially in comparison to blunck and Dalestan... :)

And there's nothing wrong with gravedigging if the issue hasn't been addressed, so the idea can maybe be revived for a new code-tinkerer with a little time to spare and a challenge to find. Myself, i like the idea of resigning the game and tallying your score.... 8)

Chill, Z, i'm on your side.... it seems like a poor choice of words is getting everyone defensive. You pointed out the large time span between bumps (which i myself didn't take to be harsh), then Eddi pointed out that people get "yelled at" for not searching the threads and then again for bumping old threads, and then you seemed to think he was castigating you for castigating Gap, which you didn't seem to be. I was only asking Eddi to take it easy on you, if he indeed felt you were coming down on the OP, because you're not uptight about those little things....

Don't worry, it's all good... 8)

Perhaps you were talking about me and not CommanderZ?

I still have trouble seeing how pointing out that a post is a gravedig (for the benefit of people who may not notice) is the same as saying "don't bump threads" or "don't gravedig".
