Got sound fx with Aztech sound card

Post by DPWally »

I know at least on other post-er had the same problem I did with an
Aztech sound card - TTDX music works fine, but no sound effects. I
finally got it to work.

First, setmode.exe. This was preinstalled on my computer in the
mmpro16\utilities directory, I assume they come with the card. It might
be available at http://www.aztechlabs.com. Run it with the /? switch to see
the options. The card has two modes, Sound Blaster PRO and Windows
Sound System. Since this utility is from 1994, I don't think WSS is
something that Win95/98 wants or understands. My card was always in SB
PRO mode, but I never chose SB PRO in the TTDX install. Once I did, all
those silly sound effects worked - and they really are silly.

3 notes:
I also chose None for music card for esthetic reasons. I don't think
that's what allowed the sound effects to work, but it's possible.

I'm running TTDX from the command prompt rather than in a DOS window. I
had the same sound problem when running in a window, but haven't tested
the solution there. The game's video is just too slow in a window.

You still have to get the correct memory, IRQ, etc. settings. Look at
the set blaster= line in autoexec.bat and the Windows hardware settings
- more details in earlier posts from people who have experimented
extensively.

Hope this helps somebody.
