3DTT - graphics and construction

Post by Peter J. Dobrovka »

Actually I am uncertain about the contruction engine. There was much
feedback criticising the graphics, especially the curves not being
round.
This could be achieved by two ways:
1. Using 'standard' modules like model railroad pieces.
2. making the modules shorter

No 1 has an additional advantage for programming: placing switches and
double-crossovers other specials would be much easier to implement.
In disadvantage there come problems connecting two existing ends and
the player wouldn't be so free in construction.

No 2 has only one disadvantage: it would increase memory requirements -
do not underestimate the effect.

As I write these lines down I think No 1 is not good. There are also
collision detection problems with really curved objects.

But the basic question is remaining: Do you think the ways have to be
improved? What would you prefer for the maximal angle two ways can
connect (at this moment it is 20° for rail and 45° for road)?
