The Web Page...

Post by Steve »

Well, I bothered going to the whale TT-World web page or whatever it's
called...

First complaint is major... WHY is the main body of the 'Hall of Fame' set to
BLINK?!? How are you supposed to read it?

Second complaint is minor... I believe you should put something in the
'Patches' section about those being CHEATS, no offense to Josef, but that's
what it is. I also think that people in the high score chart (I don't know if
it's this way already) should not be allowed in unless they use Transport
Tycoon in normal operatiing mode. They should also be set at a certain
difficulty setting... I mean, I could set mine to custom and rack up a whole
truckload of money easily... how about medium? And you should also disallow
custom scenarios... I know I purposefully built a real money-maker with two
cities of 5,000 people with a space of five squares (or is a large airport 6?
Oh well) in the middle. Built 16 planes. Made a lot of money.

But I don't know if you did this already or not, because I can't read the
rules...

Third complaint is minor also... in the Music and Sound Effects section, there
ARE no MP3s even though it says there are, and also the link to download all
the MIDIs does not work.

Fourth complaint is minor also... I don't believe I ever said you could use the
screenshots I sent you... the ones of the MagLevs blowing up? I may have said
you could... but I don't remember. Don't get me wrong, I don't want them gone,
I just wanted to make sure you didn't put them up without my permission.

Fifthly, you should put the TTDLX music on the main page into a seperate frame,
because it stops playing when you change sections.

*pant* Okay, there. Now I need to go work on my TT scenarios...

Last thing... I figured out how to read the details for the High Scores
(copy+paste) and I wanted to know if TTDLX games were allowed?

Sorry about this, I'll stop it. I can't see this at all on IE5. I only
noticed it after proff reading the HTML. It should be fixed now

Nope I haven't. I don't want to change this. If I set a standardized rule,
it might as well be a competition. The idea is to send in anything that you
have had high scores with. Doesn't matter how, just send it.
Third complaint is minor also... in the Music and Sound Effects section,
there

Big deal over whether there are no MP3's. When I made this page Chris Locke
said he was going to make all the TT songs into MP3's but it doesn't look
like it will now. If it really bothers you so much, I'll get rid of it. You
should be able to download all the midis now.

Hmmm...you sent them to me after I posted in the group asking for
screenshots. I assumed you already knew that they were going there.
Fifthly, you should put the TTDLX music on the main page into a seperate

I was thinking this, *but* the midibar in the side frame would be too big.
And I can't have it running automatically as it would be too slow to load
and loads of people on here complained about that.

Firstly, Netscape's browser supports a lot more than Internet Exploder, so may
have done that without realizing it. I was just letting you know of it.

Secondly, I think I'll submit all the results I've had for the CUSTOM
difficulties with very easy for everything. But I'd like to know how you get
the perfomance history rating over 900.

Thirdly, I just went there expecting MP3s. When there were none, I wasn't sure
if you had forgotten them or whatever.

Fourthly, I had no idea what you were going to do with them. I didn't even know
of this web site (well, I did after everyone complained about MIDI embedding or
some such) existed.

Fifthly, I know that MIDIHAVEN (http://www.midihaven.com/midi) has a side bar like
that... take a look at it. It works rather well.

Thanks for answering my complaints, though.

Hello, I'm new. And I have a suggestion for the midi problem. You have two
sidebar files, one with music, one without and you make the midi plugin 0x0
so it can't be seen. Call one file sidemid.htm and the other side.htm have
the midi embed in sidemus and then have a link to 'No Music' which takes you
to side.htm. That solves your problem! To see this in action visit
http://website.lineone.net/~mi_lavapit (I think)

You don't get blinking text on IE5? I thought it was supposed to be
*good*.

Are the MIDIs that important? Anyone who has the game can listen to them
by playing the game, and I can't imagine anyone would go out to buy the
game specifically cos they heard the sound files on a website!

904 is the maximum I ever reached. It's not very best than 900. I think.

They add to the 'mood' of the website don't they?

This thread is getting quite long, but thought I should explain.
I intend to do this, but Sony have had my minidisc recorder for the last
eight weeks in repair.

Grrrrrrr!! Until I get it back, this won't happen.
And in reply to the "why do you want MIDIs on the site?? You can run the
game if you want them" well I listen to background music while trawling
through the n/groups like now, and TT music is as good enough as anything
else.
