Is TTDPatch playable over Internet?

Post by Fallenstar »

Hi,
i'm new here

i wish to play with my brother who is 1000km far from me.
I noticed that in the alpha series of 2.0.1 patch is included a mode "TCP/IP Internet DirectPlay"

did anyone tried this?

i tried but doesn't work

i mean, it can be because i'm behind a router.
I did a portscan and found out that TTDPatch opens the ports 2300, 47264.
I forwarded those ports to my PC but still doesn't work. I did this with other games and worked. Are there other ports that should be mapped?

Basically i wish to know if the problem is my configuration or that feature is bugged. Did someone manage to play over the Internet with TTDPatch?

thanks to all

It doesn't really work, no - there are ways of forwarding it over the Internet, but you need a very low ping between the two computers, and even then it's unstable. For multiplayer, you want OpenTTD really.

Could you tell me how to do the forwarding? I played on a LAN some TTDPatch games and doesn't desynched at all for over 20 years. I've read that this may depend on the fact that we are using 2 PC with exactly the same speed.

I tried OpenTTD but he has no support for AI in multiplayer, that's really boring in my opinion because CPU adds lots of variety.
Please tell me how to make the packet forwarding because i'd wish at least try

thanks

You could try this, but it might not work very well.
