Too much stations in this town???

Post by gkirilov »

I want to build some checkpoints to guide the trains but I get the message that there are too many stations/loading areas in this town.
Is there an way to overcome this problem with the patch.

Could be that TTD run out of station names, try to rename an station in the town and then try again...

No, it does't work. I renamed 3 stations but I still have the error.

p.s. the problem is for stations in general (not only checkpoint)

TTD names the station according to their situation.
It means that if you build a station in the south of a city TTD call this station "XXXX south".
So if you try to build your checkpoint in the south of the city rename the "XXXX south" station into something else, and then try to build the checkpoint.
If you rename a station in the north of that town you'll still get the "too many stations" error message.

Renaming doesn't work. But deleting some of the competitor's stations worked. (buying 75 % and destroying the stations)

Are you sure the error message mentioned the towns ?
If you have more then 250 stations in your game you hit the limit.
The error message is then :

Code: Select all

Can't build railroadstation here....
Too many stations/loading aereas

The exact message is:
"Can't build railway station here ...
Too many stations/loading areas in this town."

I can build very few stations on the map. Only at some places.
Here is the savegame.

I mahaged the company "Bigwig & Co." and renamed his bus/truck stop "Moscow North" into "Moscow North2".
I was then able to build a new station, which the game named "Moscow North".
So if you want to build a new station, just rename a competitors station nearby.

Ok. I tried again. And it works.
But there is another problem that i found. It seem that this running out of names causes the AI to stop building new routes. Now that I've renamed 4-5 stations the AI started building A LOT of new transport routes (and that happens immediately after the renaming).
Is there any way to overcome this problem by naming the stations with numbers (i.e. _city_name_+_bus/train/air_+#1,#2 and so on), because this running out of names slows down the competition.

Just pause the game, rename a station and quickly build a new one whenever you need one.

I'm not sure if I ever requested this, or just thought about it:

It'd be nice if we could add station names and/or name suffixes, to go along with the new town names. Just adding new suffixes on the line of "North", "East", &c. doesn't seem like it ought to be too difficult.

What would be even nicer is if the names/suffixes could be attached to station types, eg the first Grand Central Station built in a city would be called "$CITY Grand Central". I think there's a version of the Chicago Union Station in the works; the same would apply for it.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Is that not possible?

Is it in OpenTTD?
