Crashing game, alpha 38.2, 39 and pre40

The following game crashes at 27 april 2570 (game time. :roll: )

This is caused somehow by the competitor number 4 : McIntosh & Co.
If I buy this competitor the crash doesn't occur.
I have no clue as to what he's trying to do on the forementioned date, but it has apparently something to do with :
"While processing GRF file: newgrf/svlinew.grf; Sprite number: 0059 (hex)" (copied from crashlogs)
I added the three crashlogs from each patch version, so maybe you can see what's wrong.

ps I already have 250 station total in game, maybe he's trying to build a new one ?

Which version of that file do you have? Can you point me to it or attach it here?

Mine was svline083a if I'm not mistaken.
Yours seems to be svline 083.

On the same vein, several of my graphics sets downloaded from TTDPatch.net also have invalid sprites. It is not the set that is already mentioned and I have searched the forum already. Sorry if I missed it.

These graphics files failed to load properly:

dbsetw.grf has invalid sprite 2012 - grf version 05.a
tropicstw.grf has invalid sprite 14 - grf version 1.00

I am using TTDPatch alpha 39.1
The ttdpatchw file is attached below if you need it. Please let me know what else is of assistance to you and whether there is anything I can do. Thanks very much

Patchman, I have found a bug in alpha 40 ...
no diffirent if I use any GRF or none ...
just follow helicopter on main, title screem .. after a while it appears and then it's rotor become land, buildings, tracks ... and any other sprite but not rotor

Would it be possible for new versions of the Patch to recognize incompatible old versions of existing GRF files, and complain on startup?

OK, I loaded it here and it didn't crash. I'll probably also need your ttdpatch.cfg and newgrfw.cfg to test it.

Here you go.
In this newgrf.cfg I disabled the svline.grf, and thus the crash doesn't occur anymore.
Reanableling it causes the game to crash again though.

Buying up the competitor keeps the game going aswell, and as the game keeps going without the svline.grf it turns out the competitor hasn't build or bought anything.
So I guess the crash isn't caused by an action from the competitor.

Nope, it still doesn't crash here, but I'm missing a couple of .grf files from your collection. Maybe you can zip your newgrf folder and email me that file as well (but rename it to .zio or my mail server will reject it).

Again, the trouble was that I have no idea where these new graphics are stored. I thought the ones I downloaded on the front patch of ttdpatch.net were the most update ones, but it turns out when I browse the graphics section there were more update ones.

Now it's all fixed. Thanks very much.

And the suggestion below that prompts the user when the graphics are outdated is a good idea too. Furthermore, the TTD Configuration utility, which also allows the user to check for updated graphics, has a dead link. It links to ttdpatch.cjb.net, where the graphics are supposed to be held, but I was denied from accessing it.
