Hi all! I finally returned to the game. Being in the army I don't have much time to play but here goes:
I have a few problems with ttdpatch.
1. First of all the video in the beginning showing the microprose logo etc does not appear.
2. The game gives an error that newgrfw.cfg could not be found.
3. And despite having longerbridges "on" in the ttdpatch.cfg file, I can't build long bridges.
4. I'm also missing the TTDX configurator which I had in an earlier patch.
5. And further, my friend has winxp and the game gives an error (when ran through the patch) that the game is not istalled properly.
I downloaded ttdpatch 2.01 alpha 38.2. I use the win version of the game.
Thanks!

Hi,
- This has been disabled by the patch to ensure a faster startup of the game. (once you have seen it why look at it at every startup ?)
- Do you have a file called newgrfw.cfg in your TTD directory ?
It's bassically a textfile that lists the newgrf's (windows version) that you want to use with the patch. - According to the manual this switch is called longbridges, not longerbridges
- Have you looked at the configurators website for the latest version?
- Have you tried using the registry editor to install the game properly ?

Hey Rob and Josef! Thanks to you I've got all the problems fixed now (well except the bridge but it aint that much of a problem).
I got the game running between my win98 and my friends' winXP and it was super unstable. We played for about one minute and the game gave us an error about the sync problem and that we should use sv2flip. Well we did but the same thing happened again so it was pretty impossible t play. I've got a couple of more questions:
1. Can I do something to make it more stable or is this just the way it is with winXP?
2. What if ignore the error and just keep playing, for about how long can we still play together?
3. I got myself winXP now so we will try for XP-XP soon, will this be more stable you think?
Thanks!!
P.S. I will leave again on Sunday and won't be back for 3 weeks so I hope we'll have time to try it out soon..

1. make sure your configurations are identical, that includes the patch version, ttdpatch.cfg, newgrfw.cfg and all graphics files. ideally copy the whole folder from one computer to the other.
2. as soon as you get the error, the game is broken, you're playing two different games instead of one linked game
3. probably not...
If you get a desynch, please try to think of what you just did and tell me so that I can attempt to fix it.
The only problems known to me are with the bribe option and copying/sharing orders in multiplayer games. If it happens with anything else, and you're sure your configs are identical, please let me know!

Thanks again J,
I'm not quite sure what we were doing, I think I had just built a train when we got the error. But the thing is that we tried it twice and we got the error maybe 30 secs after starting the game each time. He's coming over today so we'll try it out again and this time I'll look into it more specifically.
The reason I asked question 2 was because of this: When we got the desync error I had him move his screen so he could see my depot and newly built train which I still hadn't released (it was in the depot). Then I released the train and the train emerged from the depot in my screen as well as his screen so it appeared we were still playing the same game. What do you think?
But I'm glad the game didn't totally lock up the computer as it did before.
