Claims my original is a copy

Post by RangaKoo »

This is weird, and frustrating.

I'm trying to launch the game and it is constantly telling me that my original CD is a copy. Hell, I've been playing happily it for days - I only just opened the drive to see if that would fix the problem. The error message mentions http://www.securom.com/copy, but this site is useless and esentially says "try using an original CD."

I did have this problem once before, on the day I installed it. It would seem that if I try to launch the program more than once in a day (or at least between reboots) only the first launch will work..... all atempts after that are apparently using a copy CD.

Of course, now that I have started writing this post it has decided to recognise my original CD this time. I'll leave this up to see if anyone else has had this problem - or if anyone has any solutions (aside from rebooting everytime I want to play).

Apologies.

I did scroll through the Loco Problems folder, don't know how I missed it.

Securom doesnt like having certain CD/DVD copy/emulation programs in the background (with D3, it wouldnt even recognise the fact that i had my CD in there until i disabled a feature of CloneCD).

Grrr, a new day and it's doing it again, even on the initial launch attempt!

And as for securom having issues with emulators etc, I just have a 40x CD ROM. There is no burner or emulation software on this machine. As far as I can see there is no reason why it should be doing this.

I keep getting errors while I want to install it, some CRC errors, that dont pop-up anymore once I said *try again*

but then, on like 90% of the install it gives some kind of critical error, first it was that g1.dat was corrupt, and now some other file (I use a back-up version of loco CD)

I never play with original CDs, unless copys wont work (DTM2) anyway, now the other problem arrises, I cant find the originial CD :S

Oh, and yesterday I finally got it installed, but for some odd reason, graphics went fuked up, after 5secs being in game,

it would go like *blink blink* and then it showed up in somewhat 4bits or so :-| and everytime I change my resolution, it goes back to original, but then a few secs later *blink blink* and 4-bits again :-|

CRC- and data-corrupt-errors may both read errors of the CDROM drive, in the sense of: drive is getting old.
My "old" 32-speed won't install (for instance) MS Dungeon ... thingy 2 (Siege? ). So I took my dad's DVD-drive, plugged it into my computer and it installed flawlessly

Well, RangaKoo, I guess I wasn't the only one with this problem. I was starting to wonder. I hope you've found a solution. My solution was a NoCD file found on a gaming site. I have the original CD that I purchased, and the purpose of it is to get the game to work after starting it up more than once between reboots. This problem isn't necessarily a bug in the game, but rather a bug in the CD security, which is common nowadays. CDs are being protected so tightly that any slight abnormality in your CD drive or hard drive will cause it to fail; and with my luck, I'm usually the rare case of something going wrong.

Dingdingdingdingdingding!

I have also had problems with Dungeon Keeper 2 (which is a cute game). I had been playing it happily when all of a sudden it just wouldn't load one day and hasn't worked since.......

Awwww, this means I may have to spend money to upgrade my computer........ and my job ends in 6 weeks. :(
