Request: Aesthetic bridges

Post by Linky »

It would be truly wonderful to have some different kind of bridges to use while building your routes, as it's such a drag to watch the same pretty mundane stone bridges all over the world. Even though I'd wish to, I'm not up to the task.

This is just a request though, any modding is good modding. :)

I would love to see some concrete bridge piers as they are the most common sight around where I live. example:

how about a cable/stayed bridge?

how about a viaduct made of precast box girders and concrete shaft piers?

here is another nice cable-stayed and concrete viaduct:

it would be neat if one lane it was a viaduct and if you went to two parallel lanes it switched to a cable stayed bridge span every 10 squares or something.

here is a good site showing various pier and pylon configurations:

You can have different types of bridge. Just examine the building menu more closely and you'll see the option for different types of bridges

We already know that...
We want more bridges that work like the stone one and look better than it

I find it annoying that the steel girder bridge has a higher speed limit then the brick bridge in Loco since the steel girder looks so lame and makes things hard to see and seeing as in games like Railroad Tycoon 2 and 3 the stone bridge has the higher speed limit over the steel girder bridge. I would be plenty happy with the brick bridge in Loco if it just didn't have the speed limit or if the speed limit was a fair bit higher. Looks wise the steel girder bridge is the only one I dislike and try not to use.

If you use the Steel Arch for straight bits, then the steel girder for corners and junctions, it looks pretty good. That also minimizes the time you have the roof over the top.

What, I thought it was only the brick bridge that could do turns and junctions. What have I missed?

Yeah, i'd like a concrete bridge or something to replace the brick ones later on in the game. A bit like the girder, but without the annoying roof, and slope capability.
Maybe a tubular one too, for sentimental reasons  .

BTW there are slope-bridges without speed limits available. I got one from steve's locomotion depot, and it works like just perfect. No more brick bridges for me!
