Well depends if the crashworthiness regs increase again but currently it'd have to be 380s or 379s or whatever another manufacturer could produce to meet the rules.

Well, they're meant to be going to GW electrification and Northern for local electrification. When TPE North gets wired you'd need a load more EMUs and it has been announced they'd be new build.

350s or 379s then.

Probably 350s as theyre interchangeable with the 185s.

For now indeed. Though there are others being worked on. One being the P2 project :D

Alan Fry wrote:A lot of the Intercity trains are HST and this is what I want to replace (etiher 390 or IEP),
What? HST is a type of train (Class 43) so that comment is just confusing.
So let me get this straight, you want to replace all intercity trains that are high-speed locomotives/units with 390s or IEPs... My god... My mind I think just gave up.
Alan Fry wrote:as for the 180/220/221/222s, they will only be replaced if the route they use becomes elelctrfied and to do all that would take a long time (in fact I might even look at ordering more 180/220/221/222s if needed)
Well that is silly. Replace those new units if the line is electrified.. yup. Genius. All of those units already run on electrified or partially-electrified lines anyway.
Alan Fry wrote:Also, most trains are designed and even built outside the UK for a start, all the new stock will be built in the UK (one way or another)
Wait wait wait. So you want all the new stock built in the UK, but the 390s are not built in the UK any more and are not by a UK company.
And no, 'most trains' are not designed and built outside the UK. I am including ALL our running locomotives and units right back to the early days of BR - not ones built in the past decade.

319s going up north? Thank gewd for that. Bloody tin cans. I just hope they keep those ugly things of the Great Northern route :P

Yes, but they can create an all new order for 350s.

And stop slagging off 319s... I like them. Go slag off the Notworkers.

Yes, but they can create an all new order for 350s.
They can't, Siemens no longer make them and they no longer meet the regs!

There is more parts of the Siemens supply chain and more people employed in the UK than the Bombardier supply chain. Make of that what you will.

Haha :P Oh don't worry. I slag off our ones all the time 313s especially. The 365s are the only ones I don't mind.
Alan Fry wrote:I am planning to replace HST and when needed other Intercity trains with the 390, the 390s can be contracted to be built here, Alshom did it with the 91s
You are planning to? Good god, if you really are planning to do anything on the railways, god help us all.
What makes you think the 390s are even going to be appropriate by the time stock needs replacing? the Pendo-funking-linos will be out-dated by that time as well.

Also, Alshom? 91s? What? Most of that sentence doesn't even make sense whilst reading it.

I've been wondering about that for almost all of his posts..

I also think we should replace all Tube trains with modified Pendolinos; imagine travelling under London at 140mph, you could get from Piccadilly to Waterloo in 30 seconds! The trains would of course have to be slightly modified to fit the loading gauge and use the 4th rail power, but that's no problem for our innovative British engineers. I would also pump 25kV AC through the 4th rail to power the Pendolinos.

I am planning to quad-track all main lines in Britain, and run Pendolinos at minute-intervals. London Waterloo would be the home of a vaccum-tube train terminus, where I will build a tube throught the centre of the Earth to Sydney, where it will connect to the proposed Parrahub project, a series of 1m-wide subway lines in Sydney with the hub at Parramatta.

Ill join you in slagging off the FCC 313s. Slow. Terrible. Smelly. SU units are remarkably better. Well kept, clean and fast.

They have their 'ok time'. But I think it's the ruddy plastic floors I hate on trains. 313s, 317s, and 319s. Just feels horrible to be on. Even the first class on a 317 reminds me of economy seats on a Ryan Air flight.
Hence why I've always liked the 365s. Comfortable right, warm, pretty smooth and the first-class doesn't take up two-thirds of a coach :P
