Hello,

I'm currently trying to play with this patchpack and the last update of the trunk.

It's my first attempt to compile on this computer, so I can't say if the problem comes from the trunk, the source, or my installation of Visual C++ 2010 Express or the Winfows SDK or other OpenTTD prerequisites.

I start a game with the current configuration (cf. joined cfg file).

At january of 1902, the game freeze for a long time (about 1 minute).
If I look at the program output, I can see many exception (but the game doesn't crash).

After a while, the game is running again, and the game freeze again (less than 10 seconds later).

According to the program output, it looks like the AI is the problem.

Any idea ?

I'm compiling x64 binary, on Windows Vista x64.
Instead if the Windows SDK for Windows Vista x64 (7.0A), I installed the Windows 7 x64 version (7.1) but I don't think it's the problem as 7.1 is compatible with 7.0A.

If you need another file or log, just ask me (how can I see the build output when the program runs ?). I got some warning (mostly from copy_past path, so I don't think there is any link with the problem)

After futher tests, I'm almost sure the problem comes with the PaxLink AI (RoadRunner started in 1900, and for 2 years, I didn't get any problem)

"AI_VMSuspend" & the "memory" warnings seem to suggest that it is an AI problem indeed.
When I load your game I do see freezes but not in the order of 1 minute, it's rather a second and like you say it repeats itself.
When I stop PAXLink they go away.

If the above command in the console solves the problem then it is PAXLink that is causing the problem.
You should report the problem in its thread if the problem exists in clean trunk also. Maybe it is doing things it should not do.
Also many AI's have problems on big maps, not really problems but they will be slower.

how can I see the build output when the program runs ?
I see the debugging output in the console, while the game runs, when I start OpenTTD from the console.
I am not sure how to do that in Visual C++ 2010 Express and how to run the debug build from the console in Vista but the configure setting is this:

Note that the exe will be much, much bigger and potentially a bit slower while running.


Can you first try to disable the AI please?

A few more suggestions:
Make sure your active desktop is disabled, if you have it enabled (especially changing backgrounds).
Setting the sprite_cache_size to 64 in the config file might speed things up a bit for you.
Setting the blitter to 32bpp-optimized may help but is not required.
Why not change to fullscreen mode if your window is that big allready?

@MagicBuzz: what you should do is interrupt the game when it's frozen (use "break all") and post a stacktrace at that point. That might reveal if it's running some infinite loop or just busy executing (valid but slow) AI code.

I disabled the PaxLink AI (removed the AI files), then I don't notice any problem anymore (the RoadRunner AI slows the game, but not freeze).

As you mention, the map is large (1024x1024). It looks like the problem comes from that, as I never noticed any problem with this AI ans smaller maps.

There are two things you can do ...
Either apply the patch you have there to r20802 or grab v10_6 (previous page, third post) and apply it against the correct revision. You can try to bump that one to current trunk. I have no yet bumped my source myself so I am not 100% sure it will work but I think it will.
You can not bump v10 without codechange because of savegamebumps in trunk as jou have noticed. If bumping v10_6does not work stick with the revision it is made for.
When reverting your source do not forget to revert/remove the new files, else they will be applied twice and that will give problems too.

r20802 as is mentioned just before ".diff"
For v10_6 that would be later but it is mentioned also as mentioned above.



I will update the first post with the release of the next version. I won't be very long but I am really doing something else at the moment.

1.0.4 will not work. Don't bother trying.
Also I do not release patchpacks/patches against stable releases on purpose ... sorry.

After quite a bit of digging I found an old copy of that game, dated June 2005. The game year was 2074.
The latest copy of the game is from July 2010, and the game year is 3001.

Thanks and take your time. I'm not in a hurry ^^

Could someone provide a .ZIP file for copypaste.grf as I use a Macintosh and it cannot run the 7zip expander.

Hmmm, I have a problem.

With VS 2005 and VS 2008, I was able to break the code with CTRL+BREAK keys.
Plus there was a "Pause" icon in the debug toolbar.

But now, with 2010, the icon isn't there, and the CTRL+BERAK shortcut doesn't work anymore :(

I thought it was because I tried to debug x64 code (I remember it was impossible some time ago), and switched to Win32 code. But I still can't break the code and inspect the current statements being executed (??)

A quick google search tells me that there was some (intentional) change in vs2010.

You need to check your setting somewhere.
More people have this problem but I do not know what is the correct fix for it.

Maybe someone who has vs2010 installed will have a more helpfull answer, sorry.

I think it's a CargoDist issue but you told me to post here ;)

My train is going from A to B. In B it goes on a sidetrack C to wait and go back to B later. As you can see on my screenshot the train is unloading in B and is leaving empty. So no one can travel between B and C. But the capacitiy is quite high. The city is relly small right now. But it is expected to grow in the next few years when I'm going to build a bus-network. And then there will be probably some houses in the catchment area of C...

In my case is B=Marktheidenfeld Woods; C=Marktheidenfeld Rangierbahnhof
