This thread is now the "Coat of Paint" thread where you can all froth about the colour of a train or bus or plane or pe....dle boat.

That's a generic train interior.

I get the train from Stourbridge Town everyday...and the inside of the 153 they use on there always smells damp and musty inside

The FNW Gold star liveried one that clattered around Norfolk for a while last year smelt distinctly of marijuana. Damp and musty is the as-new smell for a 153.

*snip*

I believe in principle it's a good idea, but all that's going to happen is Transport Scotland deciding every 10 years or so that the trains need a bit of a refresh and new livery will be devised down the line.

*snip*

In my opinion, the TOC should have a right to define a livery, but what do others think?
Sorry to come back to this, but SPT's operator First don't get to define a livery, just they just have their logos on the trains with the current colours. I would hope they would retain this alongside this proposed ScotRail livery.

Perhaps the TOCs should be permitted to brand the inside of the trains as and how they want. Therefore meaning the trains are kept fresh looking where it matters.... where people are spending their time inside the trains!

I must say that the pic in the first post, the paint looks real neat! Swedish trains are generally quite ugly, one exception are the black Rc6 unites

Personally, i'd love to see some older liveries make a comeback.

Midland/NSR/LMS Crimson Lake? LNER Apple Green? BR Brunswick?

I'd greatly prefer that to National Express grey, or all these variations of white.

I have to say though, as far as modern liveries, I do like GNERs dark blue. Looks very fetching on a 91.

Too bad that ones on the off. Another one I liked which is long gone is the post-privatisation Great Western Merlin. It brings back memories of when I was very young walking along the sea wall at teignmouth watching Wales and West sprinters, Merlin and XC HSTs, one of my earliest memories involving trains.

FGW have done a nice job with the interiors of their refurbished mkIII's, just a shame they can't hire the cleaning staff to keep em spotless and smelling nice :(

Marijuana is the standard smell, actually.

I thought that was just the ex-wessex ones as Hippies (aka people from Totnes) use public transport.

Makes a change from the old slam doors I used to travel on around the Greater London area. Their default smell appeared to be hobo urine.

Combined with that lovely smell of body odour. Ah I miss those days ;)

I share your pain friend (also being that height, most airline and train seats are damned uncomfortable)
