What's wrong with it? It looks Japanese to me.
It just "looks" japanese with the garden, and stuff, but if you look at it, it has no door or window. It seems like the author only looked at the building of the altar of some shrine; which this resembles a lot, but there are no houses like that.
My thought was to have it as one of the trees. You often find torii gates standing alone in the forest.
Yes, but we decided that it couldn't be done, since in TTD too many spawn and it would look strange with 4 gates in each tile
It's out of proportion as a big shrine, but it looks really nice, and I think with a couple tweaks it should be a tiny shrine like you often find along back streets. Eg here:
Yeah, but that picture is just of an altar. I drew an altar on the shrine and on the company shrine. Dummy's drawing represents a full temple with walls and a building. Actually, if you look at it, it's pretty much like Korenn's temple, but 1/4 size.
I know it is in the larger building sets, but it is a very good looking and common style. I think it would make a good mid-size building on its own, maybe in a variety of colors.
Actually we already have that, full with construction stages. It's the "haruku building". In the future we can add additional color variations to it.
Japanese industrial areas have steel warehouses like that, yes around ports, but also elsewhere. It's the light industry they have. Maybe a few tweaks so they don't look quite so nautical, but basically fine.
But the game soesn't differ industrial, commercial or residential areas. It would be odd to have a warehouse besides a bank or a flats building. We can use them later when we begin drawing the industries.
And here are the missing sprites:
