After nearly 90 years of being left to the elements, this section of an old logging railroad is barely discernible from the natural landscape. Mother nature is slowly taking it back, eventually erasing any evidence of the 50-ton steam locomotives that used to rumble through this forest every day.

The Cane Creek branch of the Union Pacific Railroad, taken from the trail to Corona Arch, near Moab Utah. The line serves a potash mine further up the canyon, just outside Canyonlands National Park. The Colorado river is visible to the left. The line sees a weekly train from the mine, and was built in 1962 by the Denver and Rio Grande Western.

I took this while hiking with my brother last March - the trail crosses right over the rails with no formal provision for a crossing, so no trespass of the easement was undertaken.

So much about that "trespassing" topic...

Wonderful picture! :D

Looks like tea plantation to me ? Where did you get that ?
(I almost think it's here at first when the image loads... but as more things uncovered, I realized that none of our tea plantation have a running railway, also none of our heritage railways runs diesels, at least not that colored)

I have a photo for this one! This was taken out on the flat Canadian prairies, where there isn't a soul in sight. The fact that the road is gravel means that less than 400 cars a day use it. The nearest intersection is probably a mile (~1.5km) away...

I think I'm actually going to change my entry to this. A pic of the highway that goes into Sudbury from the south as it snakes through large rockcuts and swampy low-lying areas. Really wish it had been sunny when I'd taken this.

Also, I can't seem to edit my previous post to remove my old entry. Is this a bug or is it intentional with stickies?

It's in Sri Lanka, so from where I am, it is a good stretch in your direction :p

That is intentional, you can edit your posts on this forum only in the week after posting them. If you want to have it edited, just report it to the moderators using the appropriate button. Or you go to your User Control Panel -> Manage Attachments to delete the attachment.
