I have to say that's a nice photo. That's my hometown and I know that station well. When I was younger I remember being delighted one afternoon upon seeing a Class 60 hauled MGR passing down that spur. Not sure the angle is really necessary though, as its hardly an action shot!

Yes, in days gone by coal trains would go via Derby, down the spur onto the WCML, up to Stafford, run round at Stafford, head back down the WCML to Rugeley Trent Valley, cross onto the Rugeley Line, run round AGAIN and head into Rugeley yard.
There was a time when the train would stop just beyond Rugeley, reverse through the station at 15mph, and then stop beyond the entrance to the yard, where it would move off again.
It would have an hour to do that between local services.
