ChrisCF wrote:and if your language moderator goes on extended leave ...?

Having extra approval stages becomes a pain. Not to mention that the potential to change someone's description substantially is opening a can of worms. Then there's the situation where there's no English description. What if the English moderator doesn't speak the language for which there is a description?
If the language moderator is some time away its no problem.
There are no extra approval stages, if an admin thinks that the file can be in the public list as it is, than it will be there. If a description is empty the language moderator fills it out, if it is not empty the language moderator will only get a daily digest of the mods that have been added and will get all desriptions that have been made in his language. so he an proof read them and correct them if they have errors.
and if the language moderator cant translate because he doenst speak the language which is used primary than all he need do is download the file and try it out so he can make the description by experience.

I voted Yes.
I had to bumb several times the N.L set to the first page.
This because there were many new members with questions where to find new mods.
Even the top 3 sets will drop of the page within 2 weeks when they are finished.
It's now already hard to find where are the very good USA set, and some interesting planes like the A 380F and the Super Hercules.
Members who are here from the beginning of Lomo in about September last year, know what was released.
This make it easier for them to find things, if they haven't got them yet.
But for a newbie it's hard to search all that pages, even with the search engine.
So please some one make a data base where all mods are included and make that one sticky.

How about this:

Change the moderator topic "Guidelines for Creators & Users" to "Readme first" and have it list -- in addition to the posting guidelines -- links to all known available mods. It means more work for Steve and Owen, but as long as it doesn't mean more work for me, I'm all for it. ;-)
So long and thanks for all the fish.

So if steve would like to cooperate with me i would make the database system and he would tell me what else should be integrated, and i will do it. Im a professional coder so programming a very complex and also easy to use database system that fits all needs AND is MULTILINGUAL is no big thing for me. It also would be possible to support french and dutch and even spanish translations ON THE FLY if someone would help translateting into these languages. like scrat for dutch?
And what im talking about is a function that supports, that the user chooses his language (or it is choosen by the server if the browser supports it) and the complete site will be in english or german or dutch or french or spanish.
No need to think about where to find what (or what is the item im looking at) because its all in the right language.
My system is already being made (well, that's how it is planned), so it doesn't make sense for you to begin another one.

At the moment, priority goes to making it work in english, luckily most people from this community can understand it enough to get the files they want. Making the actual site have different languages won't be too much of an issue, i am worried about trying to make all the files have different languages too. I suppose you don't want actual files to be translated, but their details, which should be possible after a simple extension of the system.

I would take you up on creating the database, except i already have a coder working on it. Unless he decides to let you take over, then it's his job. I did make a thread about it a while ago, that you could of mentioned this stuff in.

Steve, as far as i can judge the first page of your Locomotion Cache, i think this will for fill the needs for a system that bundles all mods.
If all mod makers use this for linking to their sites, or link to the right topic post where it's posted in this forum, then i'm sure that this will be appreciated by the members.

my system must not be STARTED its finished, but not online yet and all that needs to be done is fill it with content and extending the support for english users because all had been done in german and the language system i showed you would be integrated in a few minutes of work, if a had it just planned i wouldnt have mentioned it here.
but ok, you dont want a cooperation, so good luck do it on your own. 8)

the only problem with *our* version is that I have to fill in the querys, and then its done too... its just damn annoying making those querys :P (I hate querys and database designing) ohwell :)

as for the internationalization of the site, its easy as hell -_- all I need, is a tiny script that can see, from which country you come, else I can just put a link ontop with few flags of countrys, done....

besides, who said we dont want coöperation? I didnt ohwell :P

anyway, gonna get dressed up  mum comming home soon

He boys don't fight.
Put your programs next to each other and keep the best of it to make a sensible menu.
And for Steve, what's the problem with that multi language system of Loewe 13.When you are already in the menu, you can choose with a country flag or someting like that, to get it in your own language.
Note: Not every body can read technical English.
I wonder if you your self can speak German, French or Dutch.

Please don't do this. Allow the user to select a language.

(Sorry, this is really a pet peeve of mine. For instance, when I type "www.google.com" and I get redirected to "www.google.nl" it pisses me off, because if I wanted to go to "www.google.nl" I would have typed "www.google.nl".)

Apart from that, good initiative. You'll give the German site some competition. ;-)
So long and thanks for all the fish.

Two ideas for the language issue:

Put the national flag next to each item. So, that way it's easy to tell what country the addon is set in.

Or - Put a Babelfish link at the bottom for as many languages as you can.

The second tool would probably be best.
