OK, then, but then we should also discuss what kinds of transport to use in late 21st century. Because I'd say that in 2090 there should definitely be newer technology than maglev. Hehe, maybe teleporters?Bjarni wrote:currently it is not enough. We need a longer period. The reason is that if you want to start in 2020, you should be allowed to do that. The same goes for 1830. With the current system, that is not possible.

This might require implementing road trains, a-la Transport Giant, so we don't end up withthorkia wrote:Just think, different animals could provide different top speeds and horse power (literally). Like an Ox might be slower than a draft horse, but can pull twice as much...
Draft horses pulling small wood cart
Draft horses pulling wood cart
Draft horses pulling small ore cart

...
Oxen pulling small wood cart
Oxen pulling wood cart
Oxen pulling small ore cart

...
Even with only 1 cart size and two types of engine, 2 resources is the break-even point.
And then when you want to have 2 pair Oxen pulling the cart(s), or 3 pair draft hors*&^%$*&*$#%NO CARRIER

Road trains are also a MUCH better suited to the tractor-semitrailer system, especially once you start looking at double- or triple-trailer vehicles; here in the US double isn't all that common, especially for UPS and USPS, and even three isn't unheardof.
I forgot about refitting in my previous post, and OTTD could implement a better system than TTD's (eg "I want this vehicle...carrying that cargo...now *Build*") or one similar to Simutrans, where each vehicle carries one type of good (eg "Bulk", "Containerized", "sanitary liquid", "oily liquid") with a few special types.

Well... When 0.4.0 is out, I wil ltry to look at the code again, and see if I could put together a road train patch...
The current vehilces would be compatable - they would be like the current train engines that can carry passengers...
So, I don't think it would be too hard over all. Just rework all the train stuff to be compatable with roads.

Road Trains are large transport trucks with 3 or more trailers that are mainly used in Australia. Below is a picture of one.

Huh? IIRC the longest road train was over a kilometre long, I don't think there's anything unrealistic about including road trains.MeusH wrote:Uh... Anyway, I don't think it's good to make that. Too heavy cargo for powerful truck.
There is a roadmap on the wiki, people should read it and stop asking the same bloody questions.MeusH wrote:Yeah, OTTD leaders, when there will be full grf support and scenario support?

We'd need more curved roads though, for a roadtrain longer then 1 wagon it would be impossible to take those turns, right?mdhowe wrote:Huh? Alcohol is not the answer, it just makes you forget the question.

Kilometre?
No, I'm not complaining about the spelling (metre vs meter)
ISTR someone developing an 8-way road system.mdhowe wrote:Yeah, it would look kinda strange. But if we had diagonal roads.......ThorRune wrote:We'd need more curved roads though, for a roadtrain longer then 1 wagon it would be impossible to take those turns, right?

Here it is. It will apparently be added in sometime after 0.3.5, what with the new map being implemented then.

I think it had like 100 trailers or something but it wasn't practical, just a world record attempt, I think.
