I ensure that compatibility is not broken for minor version releases. But when new stuff is added for a major release, the station IDs have to change.

Converting old savegames is explained by Sanchimaru in the first post. ;)

Aye ... But there is another less costly way to do it, similar and just as annoying, but less costly all the same. 8)
1. Before installing a new version of IRS, pause your game.
2. Stop all your trains while making sure that none are parked inside a station. The stations must be emptied of all vehicles.
3. Save your game while it is paused.
4. Exit TTDX or OTTD.
5. Install the new version of IRS.
6. Restart TTDX or OTTD.
7. Load your saved game but be sure to pause it immediately.
8. While the game is paused, check all your stations. You will only have to replace the tiles that are obviously broken, not the entire station.
9. It is now safe to restart all your trains.
10. While you are at it, you can also upgrade or add in any other tiles that were upgraded by the new version of IRS.

Congratulations! You have now saved a lot of money by replacing only those tiles that needed replacing.

Thanks Wally, that should work. ;)

There are just a couple of additional points when converting OpenTTD games:

Step 5: ensure the old copy of IRS is removed from the OpenTTD data folder or its sub-folders. An OpenTTD savegame will find the old version if it still exists, even if the file has been renamed.

Step 7: an OpenTTD savegame will be paused when loaded if it was paused when saved.

Step 8: build-while-paused has to be on here, which is considered a cheat in OpenTTD. It is possible to make the changes while the game is running, as long as the trains remain stopped. This will of course cost more and affect your station ratings. :|

I do it following way: (OTTD)

1. Convert all ISR-stations to default station
2. Disable ISRold and enable ISRnew
3. Recreate the stations with all the new features :)

Or with build in pause mode, but you have to watch out that no train is at an ISR-station

even a easier way:

1. finish or abandon your current game

2. start a new game

A good way to do this is to switch at least one of newairports, newroutes or newobjects from on to off between saving and loading.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

This set is just beyond words wonderful.... add sooo much realism and dimension to the game.

Now, just wish there was something this advanced for the passenger stations...
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I would guess that you are having this problem. If so, moving ISR to an earlier position in your GRF list should fix it.

If you still have problems, please post the list of GRFs you are loading. And which version of OpenTTD are you using?

Solved. Thank you very much, mart3p.
The version I am using is OTTD 0.6.2

Yes, the changes made by peter1138 at r12958 to help with this problem, were not backported to the 0.6 branch. Nightly builds with the changes, are much less fussy about the GRF loading order. ;)

Just wanted to say thanks to Mart for coding, and to all the other artists. It's been fun contributing to this set, and the results are great.

Only one problem...I have some more ideas for things to draw

There are a few more graphics I'm planning to contribute. I think mart also has a few other things planned for a future release, but I don't want to put words in his mouth...see if he replies in the thread. My guess on a date for any new release would be, 'not too soon'

cheers,

Andy

I think some sort of automatic fencing would be very nice - it would build a fence around the outer tiles (exept these that have a wall there or road entrance or a water is there)...if it is possible with newStations :)

I believe the fencing like that has been mentioned a few times in the past, don't know were it has gone though.
