Very nice looking bridge!

Sorry if there is something I don't understand about bridges, but shouldn't the pillars be placed in the middle of the tile? I.e. be a bit shorter? And the light seems to come from the wrong direction?

I noticed that too, but it seems that the light comes from the wrong direction more often on the pillars of the bridges so I guessed it is normal or something.

This could well be because that particular surface would be shaded by the bridge itself but the edge surface of the pillar gets highlighted by "striped" light.

With this style of bridge, i.e. a single pillar. You just cannot get it right 100 %. Ideally, the pillar should go where you marked it, but technically it is impossible, because the way the pillar is stacked.

It's a bit easier with twin pillars, but still a nightmare.

@AndersI, and many others
In the TTD world, there are many optical illusions, becouse the lack of steep slopes, everything is cheating with heights, per example its very hard to make a proper tunnelhead. Yes, I can make the pillars shorter, but what happens at flat land use? The bridge would`t become enulogh tall to get something under it. I can also move the pillar the corresponding tile, but then the simmetry of the bridge would collapse, so I think Pikkabird have chosen the best way to handle his viaduct, even with many optical illusions.
About lighting error, so it should the lighter than the main face? Yes? Then the shaded part of the pillar will shine with its full bright too. You really want to this happen, becouse having cuscomized pillars per height is not possible yet?(like in the attachment)

eis_os wrote:The grf standard doesn't define OTTD bridges actually, it can create all kinds of problems in TTDPatch if you try to use them (you are free to create a conditional jmp depending on TTDPatch or OTTD. (With current TTDPatch version it doesn't matter, there are enough dummy slots, but with older versions it will), I haven't yet found a good layout model.

I guess Belugas will add the necessary support if we find a decent action321 support with variable sized layouts and preliminary newroutes support (in the sense there will be an acton5 for the surface of a bridge, and you can tell when you want to draw it)
Or even a new way to address the pillars drawing, according to the position of the pillar on the bridge itself. A bit like the different upper parts of the bridge. But that would require of course action 1/2/3-321.
If you are not ready to work a bit for your ideas, it means they don't count much for you.
OpenTTD and Realism? Well... Here are a few thoughs on the matter.

OK. I was afraid of that, but hoping you had made a drawing error :-)
About lighting error,
Well, I just compared your earlier picture in the thread, where the contrast between the two sides of the pillar was lower, and the new picture felt wrong. It seems you have made the sides brighter, but kept the dark under the bridge, increasing the contrast.

Re: Total Bridge Renewal Set

Hello, i was wondering if anyone could help me.

I have the bridge renewal set on my OpenTTD and i having the problem were the bridges are not showing up as the new ones when i build them.

Here is a screen shot of the bridges i have built and that they are the originals ones, and a list of all the GRF i have i you think that is conflicting.

Also i don't know if i have the most up-to-date version so if that is the problem can please someone point me in the right direction.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I had that - then I moved the bridge set below TTRS and it worked fine.

I would recommend also turning off the TTRS road and bridge graphics via the parameters. Don't ask me what they are because I can't remember for the life of me.

You have to load my bridgeset after TTRS, then my grf will override the TTRS bridges. You need to place my bridgeset under the ttrs not before, like in your screenshot, Total bridge renewal is first grf loaded in the game. Try adjusting the place of my grf, place under the TTRS, or disable ttrs bridges with a proper parameter.

Can you describe what version of TTDpatch, or OTTD are you using? Also, can you show me you loaded grf list? Without any proper information you wont recieve any helpful solution for your problems...

TTDpatch: V2.6 alpha 0 r1893 even if the game is running with only the bridges, I can't start a new map. It just crashes.

TTDpatch has stopped the compatibility, try using a version before r1893 if you want to use this with TTDpatch

For OTTD, I can see a lot of grfs loaded, I havent ever expirenced that disabled problem, maybe you are using too much grfs at once? Is my grf remains disabled when thats the only grf used also?

The new action321 rewrite hasn't started, so thats an false assume... Bridge GRFs should work as before, otherwise the action0 rewrite is broken and it has to be reported as bug.... (always use the newest version, since r1901 that bug shouldn't happen anymore )
