Re: The Thread Of Randomness
Even when you mess up the recipe, it's still good as far as I'm concerned.
Re: The Thread Of Randomness
Windows 8 running in secure mode does not like you to repartition the c: drive and then install linux on it while hybernating.
Who would have guessed ... Oh well another lesson learned.
Now to convince the bugger to wake up again ... somehow, as strange as it may sound, I hope I will not manage to do so eventually.

Cholestrol =/= Weight.Jolteon wrote:Well, finally realised why I wasn't losing any weight. I had replaced my chocolate snacks with snacking on a hard boiled egg, i'd cook like ten at the start of a week, and put them in the fridge to cool and enjoy during the week, take one out when i felt peckish.
Just got informed that hard boiled eggs aren't really all that healthy, as the yolk is full of cholesterol. The white is pretty good though, shame the yolk is the good bit.
Need to think of something else I can snack on, that isn't green preferably.
My cholestrol is still ridiculously high but I've lost five stone since July 2010 (and three stone since July last year).

And that is why I love Win8, no pun intended, it allows me to stop certain software to do things I do not want it to do, even if it installs itself as root or tries to access data from another OS altoghether

Surely that is the case with almost every operating system?ChillCore wrote:And that is why I love Win8, no pun intended, it allows me to stop certain software to do things I do not want it to do, even if it installs itself as root or tries to access data from another OS altoghether

No, but it's not the reason you're not losing any weight either!

This is the first time I get the message that partitions can not be mounted at all because of windows being in hybernation mode.JGR wrote:Surely that is the case with almost every operating system?ChillCore wrote: And that is why I love Win8, no pun intended, it allows me to stop certain software to do things I do not want it to do, even if it installs itself as root or tries to access data from another OS altoghether
I have messed up many OSs before but I could always access them, either via a live cd, restoring the OS, restoring the MBR or simply attaching it as slave.
The only thing I never tried is accesing a hardware locked disk by brute force (where the HDD is no longer recognised as such and even the partitions are not visible anymore); just because I could not be bothered to put some time into it or the money for the required software... I know there are ways which I will not go into here on the foums for reasons.
Hmm now that I have a proper installation DVD (as oposed to te pre-installed stuff) ... I could try to restore the MBR and/or default settings ... I did not yet try that ... at all.

Maybe later as there is not much on there that I can not replace easily (*) and have other things to do at the moment.
(*) Only a handfull of games that I have on CD/DVD or can re-install via my various accounts.
If you are refering to stopping malicious companies, that require FTP access to even function at all, not accessing your system settings, changing and/or deleting files while you are looking at it to try and change licenses already given ... sure you can stop them but not without locking yourself out too for the most part and removing the system account.
Grrr I hate that stupid invasive DRM crap they impose on us ... always online ... my ass ... not buying that crap no more ever again.

The system is quite correct to discourage you from trying to modify the partition table whilst an OS that is suspended to disk has it mounted.ChillCore wrote:This is the first time I get the message that partitions can not be mounted at all because of windows being in hybernation mode.JGR wrote:Surely that is the case with almost every operating system?ChillCore wrote: And that is why I love Win8, no pun intended, it allows me to stop certain software to do things I do not want it to do, even if it installs itself as root or tries to access data from another OS altoghether

It's likely to cause things to go subtly wrong when you try to resume (if the OS will deign to resume at all). You're opening the door to all sorts of unpleasant file system integrity issues.
It only takes a minute to shut down the OS/dismount the relevant file systems before booting from something else.
As for DRM in games, I agree with you there. Then again I don't really do modern games so it's never been an issue for me (not that any of them would run on my Linux box anyway).

If I have 10 apples and you have 11 ice cubes, how many pancakes will fit on the roof?
Purple, because aliens don't wear hats.
... Sometimes maths problems sound like that to me. And I'm supposedly quite good at maths too.

Currently an impossibility with any sort of real accuracy with todays science, although the output in watts is approximately 3.8e+26.LocoRoller wrote:Calculate the nuclear output of the sun.

Oh wow... I am a freshman, and so far, I haven't found a math problem that I find truly confusing. Although, I might have an advantage. I am in Algebra II, (AKA Math III due to Common Core) and was in the top of my class in Algebra I and Geometry, which I took in middle school.Chrill wrote:If I have 10 apples and you have 11 ice cubes, how many pancakes will fit on the roof?

My Algebra II is an honors class an I am also taking honors world history. And marching band on top of that. Also, next semester, I am looking into getting a job. Busy me!

Shoo off people, this isn't meant to be read, but meant to be looked at as a proof. Anyway, that's the reason why we're very good at reasoning and getting around things.
