Former DB shunters used at Eastleigh
Knights Rail Services and Arlington Fleet Services are in joint-custodianship of two "Köf II" shunters, nos 323 674-2 and 323 539-7 which are to be used around Eastleigh. This also comes in at a time when GBRf acquires eight fairly-new-built Norwegian Di 8 locos, built in 1996-7 ex CargoNet, for use in Teesside.
Could this mean more European locos coming across the channel for permanent basis here?

Re: Former DB shunters used at Eastleigh
It could, of course... but due to our restricted loading gauge, there's unlikely to be much use outside of Eastleigh works for the ex-DB shunters, nor the Lackenby plant for the Norweigan locomotives!

Regarding the British loading gauge then, how did Foster Yeoman ever get an American EMD switcher to go anywhere? I think it was sent over there in the 1980s. I would think it would take extensive restructuring of the right of way to make it usable?
Re: Former DB shunters used at Eastleigh
It's only used around the Quarry. I think it was involved in a Accident once involving it and a Class 59, Don't know if the loading guage had anything to do with it as well.Railwaymodeler wrote:Regarding the British loading gauge then, how did Foster Yeoman ever get an American EMD switcher to go anywhere? EDIT: It Ranaway after the Brakes failed, passed through a tunnel too low for it then hit the rear of the 59's Train.

Are they still talking about running ICE services into St Pancres? I've not heard anything since I saw the tester one arrive there last year

From WNXX (the actual site, not the forum!):
"More imports...
Five of the Di8s for GBRf at Redcar have arrived in the UK, the others are to follow. 8712 8716 8717 8719 and 8720 were unloaded from the EEMS CHRYSTAL at Tees Dock this morning, the ship docked on the 17th after sailing from Sweden. These locomotives leased from Beacon Rail Leasing for internal shunting at Redcar are massive centre cab Bo-Bos built by MaK in 1996 rated at 2100hp with a maximum speed of 75mph"

The shunters for Eastleigh are tiny, a lot small than an 08.
