This is one of my first real projects. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it, and a way to improve it. Basically i connected much of the industry, and haven't really been connecting cities - those i have connected doesn't really grow. Maybe i should just give it some time.
Anyways, I think it's pretty decent, not very original thou.

Re: starter project
Downloaded and watched for a bit.
Your crossing locked few minutes after I started watching. I suggest that you should use path signals. Also you do not have enough waiting space. That passenger train is currently waiting at signal (that never turns green) but end of train is on mainline and is blocking it. And when it blocks mainline it also blocks that rubber train above it as it tries to enter same signal block that passenger train end is on. And rubber train`s end is on same signal block that passenger train is trying to enter...
OpenTTD wiki about path signals
-Prendston East doest not have signal at the end of one platform. This means all other trains on station need to wait until that one train has finished loading and has left.
-Same thing on Little Grindingstone Bay West and Little Grindingstone Bay Transfer.
-Your cities do not grow, because they do not get good service. For example Nufingford has station far away from town. If you enable station coverage from station build menu and check Nufingford Halt`s coverage by placing "new" station over it, you can see that it only covers only two houses from town. I suggest that you build bus feeder service.
Feeder service on OpenTTD wiki
Also, some towns are on desert so they need water and food to grow. If town does not have water tower, you can build one.

Re: starter project
like junafani said you have little passenger and mail and food/water services and you being block by 2 AI's (i always turn them of)
and you should use path signals so that your network is improved and faster.
and i don't know your starting date but, it is little progress if you started at 1950.
