The crew lived to tell the tale...

BREAKING NEWS!!!
First men land on Pluto! After several months in cryostasis, the crew of the UES Endeavour finally made it to Pluto. They took this photograph of the Sun as it rises on Pluto, hardly any brighter than the surrounding stars of Orion. The UES Avenger attains 0.3c! Using experimental new ion engines and a powerful new fusion plant, the testbed vehicle travelled at relativistic speeds across the solar system. Once the UES Endeavour returns from Pluto, both ships will begin a relativity exercise involving combined speeds of over 1.0c. The Avenger will be remote-controlled as it will experience accelerations of over 40G, and the Endeavour will be fitted with acceleration absorbers.
@D-CHGU, can we have some acceleration absorbers please?
The UES Pioneer has been upgraded to Fusion-Ion drive and now makes the TerraHub-Mars run in only a week! Visits to the Mars Base are now available to members of the public with deep pockets! (whereas the Moon has becme much cheaper with the advent of the space elevator. A new lunar hotel and amusement park is being built, it is to be called Luna Park.

Allthough some of our scientists have given artificial gravity some thoughts, mainly involving magnetic fields to compress the plasma core of a fusion reactor to a singularity, this technology is still far out of reach, but not impossiblerdrdrdrd wrote: oh i missed that, it depends how they work, if they use artificial gravity fields then thats is not allowed but if they are something like fluid immersion or a compressible substance that can recharge when acceleration is 1G then thats ok

OT/ I give these things many thoughts a day... as a hobby I write a science-fiction novel

our acceleration absorbers are a combination of both systems... the modules accessible by the crew are submerged in a dense fluid thereby creating an acceleration-free "bubble" in the center. The technical parts of the ship have fluid-compression-absorbers.
That sounds like a deal ! thank youEmperor Jake wrote: AF$1,000,000 each trip on the space elevator (Cheap!) and the tug UES Pamela will be dispatched for free because you are an UESPA member nation![]()

Breaking News !
Today, the last barrel of oil has been filled at our main pumping station !
Geologists and drilling experts have confirmed that the geological oil reserves have been sucked dry.
Though this will not impact our energy production, our economy might still be concerned since oil was one of our main export products.
In addition we will now need to import a reasonable quantity as raw material for our chemical industry, until an artificial alternative can be found.
At the same time, deep core drilling has begun to use the old oil wells as sources for geothermal energy.

Rohan is still producing some oil for countries still on fossile fuels. Just say how much you need it. I'm sure we can make some sort of trade agreement.
Re: The Map Game
Our chemical industry and plastic production neeb about 150000 tons a month... it's going to be less than that soon since we're working overtime at developping an alternative to oil for this industry.
Our interstellar probe en route to Proxima Centauri has now entered the dwarf stars' heliosphere and begun deceleration. The first images transmitted back are expected to arrive within a few years from now.

Rohan moon base connects to the maglev system.
Also, Rohan has started building a spacedock in Earth's geostationary orbit (above Rohan territory). After it's completed, it will look something like this: It will be powered by a pair of fusion reactors. It will be suitable for about 5000 inhabitants and will feature an inner space dock adapt for three ships. Just in case, we're planning to arm in well...
@UESPA - we'll certainly need the elevator.

The director of the RFSA, together with the scretary of science affairs, has declared the newly finished Rojàn space station open and invited all UESPA members to celebrate with them on the new station.
It's relatively small and cramped but totally sufficient for its purpose as a research outpost.

Re: The Map Game
@Voyager One: That is a big space station - based on the picture, it looks bigger than the UESPA LunarHub station. Of course, you are welcome to use the UESPA's facilities such as tug-ships and the space elevator. In fact, work on the space elevator upgrade has begun to enable massive 1400-ton payloads (one at a time, all other services have to be cancelled) or up to twelve standard passenger or cargo pods at a time in both directions.
Regarding you "arming" the space station, wasn't there a "no weapons in space" treaty, or is it purely for defensive purposes? Or did we never actually agree to that treaty?
BREAKING NEWS!!!
After tests conducted by the UES Avenger and the UES Endeavour, we now know a lot more about relativistic speeds and the speed of light. It turns out that there is actually no "barrier" as such, as the two ships passed each other at a combined speed of almost 1.1c. This means that one ship was actually travelling faster than the speed of light relative to the other ship, so why should it be impossible to travel at faster than the speed of light relative to the universe?
The UES Avenger will soon begin FTL-trials after an even more powerful fusion reactor is installed. Its flight will be pre-programmed because FTL travel will screw up the remote control signals, and the accelerations of over 60G would squish any human and shock absorber system.
Current fleet of the UESPA:
01 UES Pioneer - Transport to Mars Base
02 UES Endeavour - Exploration and Testing
03-04 UES Pamela-class tugs (fusion powered), 3 more to be built
05 UES Enterprise (never built as such)
06-08 UES Juno-class tugs (caterpillar-drive) for transporting ore from Asteroid Mines
09 UES Ceres - Mining Utility Ship
10 UES Avenger - Testbed for new drives and FTL Travel
11-13 UES Commodore - Multipurpose Science Vessel (under construction)
25 aging MX3000 transports
33 aging MX5000 transports
42 new CargoHopper transports (under construction)

Re: The Map Game
It is a VERY big station. We intend to build something that will last for centuries.Emperor Jake wrote:That is a big space station - based on the picture, it looks bigger than the UESPA LunarHub station.
Projected size
Height: 865 m
Max diameter (upper saucer section): 420m
Total mass: approximately 13.000.000 tons
Decks: 225
Armaments
- 20-25 spatial torpedo launchers
- 30-40 proton pulse cannons
Docking facilities:
- internal docking for 3 major ships
- 12 external docking ports
- 5 shuttle bays
Power supply
- increased compared to the original idea - 4 fusion generators, 26.000 TeraWatts total
Yes, we are aware that this is an enormous project that will take decades to complete and vast ammounts of money and resources but we're determined to build the future.
Armaments - defensive purposes only. In any case, we wish this station to become the UNITED EARTH's Space Command Center for generations to come.
Re: The Map Game
The FRSA officials are amazed by this visionnary project.
We are willing to support it with all means possible as we feel it will be for the good of all mankind.
At the same time we'd like to propose standartisation of spaceship plans.
Insead of each nation throwing a new desing in the UESPA fleet, a common agreement on designs should be made.
Ships of diferent categories should have common plans so as to make it easier, faster and cheaper to build them.
Every member nation of the UESPA would build the components they can produce best and they would be assembled either in space or in a spaceyard on the earth/moon
Plans should be agreed upon for the following classes :
- Cargo (containers / tankers) (small, medium, large)
- Passenger transport (orbital shuttles, earth-moon, inter-system, inter-planetary)
- Exploration (unmanned probes, manned expeditions, perhaps in the future colonization vessels)
- Armed ships (escorts, destroyers, command-vessels, perhaps carriers for escort-vessels)

Re: The Map Game
If you look at my pictures of UESPA ships, you can see that they use interchangeable components and identical parts. The deuterium tank section and engines are all intercompatible.
For tanker ships and other heavy cargo transport, we just need to build containers that can be attached to the already standardised Pamela and Juno class tugs, much like the large containers already used for ore transport from the mines.
The upcoming Commodore class will be able to serve many purposes - they will be defensively armed and include command and research facilities.
We don't have a standard design for smaller vessels yet, but we are working on a framework design that will be adaptable to passenger and light freight vessels.
The LunarHub station near the Moon will be obsoleted by the new space station. The shipyard facilities will all be transferred to the TerraHub which has direct space elevator access for easy construction of space station modules and starships. Touristic and command facilities will be moved to the new station when it is completed.
@Voyager One: How are we planning to implement gravity on the space station? The LunarHub station has a spinning section that simulates gravity, but the rest is a weightless environment.
Also, does it really need that much power? Surely 0.5 gigawatts should be more than enough, as 26000 Terawatts is about as much as the entire nation of USAf requires.
Remember fusion generators require a lot of deuterium, which is why over half of a fusion-powered starship's volume is full of deuterium tanks.
Theoretically, since the new space station is in geostationary orbit, it should be feasible to connect it to TerraHub with a cable similar to the space elevator itself. Then the new station would essentially have a direct connection with the ground (Or you could run another space elevator cable down directly to Rohan)

Emperor Jake wrote:How are we planning to implement gravity on the space station?
Very simple. The station would spin around it's axis. Just as your LunarHub. Unfortunately, this rejects the elevator connection idea. Maybe we can try slightly changing the design to make a non-rotational bottom for attaching an elevator cable. In any case, it would also be acceptable to build a separate elevator nearby. Well, we'll discuss it further.Emperor Jake wrote: Then the new station would essentially have a direct connection with the ground (Or you could run another space elevator cable down directly to Rohan)
Yes, this is an issue to discuss too. However, we have calculated this much power is needed because of the following:Emperor Jake wrote:Also, does it really need that much power?
- to power up all those pulse cannons (they are the major power users)
- to polarize the entire hull as a defensive measure
- life support and station operations
- for the internal "drydock" (basically a shipyard) that would drain a lot of power too
- possibility of making certain special manufacturing plants within the station.
Basically, setting aside standard operations and offensive/defensive capabilities, we're planning this station to be a point to build and launch new ships.
Yes, this is a problem, we're aware of it. Frankly, we don't see any alternative for now. We're experimenting with deuterium + lithium methods of fusion. It's still VERY experimental but it seems it consumes much less "fuel".Emperor Jake wrote:Remember fusion generators require a lot of deuterium
