Automobiles painted with rail road liveries
This is a bit of a crazy idea but has anyone ever seen cars, trucks, vans, etc painted with rail road paint schemes like the red cab and zebra striped body of Canadian National or the green with black top and bottem bands of Burlington National.
Only problem I could think of this idea is the railroad might not like having their logos and/or liveries on unofficial vehicles. Though it would be cool if someone painted a truck, bus, or school bus to look like a locomotive

Re: Automobiles painted with rail road liveries
Never seen one before. Most of the CP and CN service vehicles (at least in around Sudbury) are white with the company logo on the door. CP service trucks have the logo on the door with an interchanging red and white line along the bottom. And something I've noticed with the CN service trucks, which is how I easily tell them apart, is that its white in the front and all red or an orangish colour on the back. Though some CN transport trucks I've noticed, are all black, and red on the hood and around the front wheel-well.
I like the idea of a school bus painted to a colour scheme, sounds like a extreme model railroader with way to much money, time, and space.

Re: Automobiles painted with rail road liveries
I wonder what the railroads could legally do about a railfan vehicle as such.
Here in Waukegan, I have seen a similar idea: Someone "tricked out" a car, painted it orange, and lettered it for Chee-toes, complete with Chester Cheetah on the hood! Then the son of one of my customers, has a similar car that is blue, and decorated for Sonic the Hedgehog! Even has the Sega logo.
These are well-done enough that you might think at first that they are owned by the companies as some sort of promotional vehicle.
I would assume, that if the vehicle is painted different from official railroad trucks or cars, that there would not be a problem. Then again, with the Union Pathetic's licensing terms for their logos, it would probably be best to avoid their livery.

Would official Road-rail vehicles count?
Not that they would in the UK because they're all contractors vehicles and Network Rail are boring as hell.
(also I moved this thread and left a redirect)orudge smells of coffee beans; 50 is the ONE TRUE SIZE

Re: Automobiles painted with rail road liveries
I remember seeing a few photos in pre-internet days (in magazines etc), of a van in NetworkSouthEast colours (complete with yellow end), and a caravan painted up to look like a 47 in BR Blue...

I can do better:
Adelaide, South Australia's public transport system has the most consistent and unified livery:

The same google image search brought up an NSE double decker bus and an NSE caravan, but the images were tiny, and the end product not quite so impressive:Kevo00 wrote:Ah, now that is just genius! No excuse for stepping out in front of that van!47434 wrote:...found it:

Re: Automobiles painted with rail road liveries
Maybe one of these days if i ever have my license and the money I'll try and get a school bus and chop it up a little to make it look like U-boats or a Dash 7 (the bus already has a curved top so the cab and radiator sections are easy) Maybe if i get help I could move the engine to make it MR so that I can chop up the front and give it a more locomotive feel (possibly even have front and back doors)
It'd be kinda cool to drive down the street with something that looks like locomotive from the front.

Like the truck-disguised-as-train used in the filming of the movie Inception?

Probably something like that, though it'd have to be street legal since it would be no fun if I couldnt freak out people driving through down town Toronto with something that looks like a locomotive on the road

Re: Automobiles painted with rail road liveries
It looks like part of a Class 321 (even tough it could be 322).
Re: Automobiles painted with rail road liveries
I'm guessing it was some sort of NSE roadshow exhibit.
