This many (assuming you want "correct" diagonals like av8, and not "TTD" diagonals, which would be somewhat shorter).

Lovely

I certainly want correct diagonals.

Seeing it drawn like that I can do the maths (I hope). However in the hope of saving myself some brain-ache do you happen to know the ratio of the lengths of horizontal to diagonal?

Thanks

actually, that is backwards, the / and \ views are "correct" length, but the - view is "stretched" by about 33%.

if you base your scale on the - view, you tend to get too high sprites. (like George's LongVehicles)

I have no idea what you're talking about. TTD train and road vehicles are shortened in the diagonal views compared to the horizontal views, or they are lengthened in the horizontal views compared to the diagonal views. It's surely the same thing? The fact that George's Long Vehicles are drawn to "realistic" scale and proportions is neither here nor there.

i'm saying when you assume a length:height ratio, you get a different height depending on whether you take the - view or the / view as "master" and use that height value for all other views

Hi Pikka, thansk for a wonderful set, been using it on and of last couple of years, but now I noticed the "Upgrade". How does that work in OTTD? I can't figure that one out, would be nice to have my planes a bit bigger without running too big an airplane (going realistic, running 737s in Norway, going next step is 757 or even 767, which is.. lame, in a realistic Norway).

Also, as suggestions, I would love to see the Twin Otter and Dash 7, both from DeHavilland. We got loads of the D8s in Norway, and had the other two mentioned, still remember the D7, was so huge when I was 4 years old! :D

These are generational aircraft; basically, the newer plane (eg 737 Next Gen) replaces the older plane (737 Classic). Your existing planes will remain the same, but if you buy a new 737 you will get the newer model.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the set. :) The Twin Otter will be in the next version, due out in October.

I am in 87, so the 737 Classic and the DC-8 Super 60 should be available, but they ain't. Might I be using too old OTTD version?

One might think that it would be obvious that if you ask such a question, you'd also give the actual version (of game and grf) that you are playing.

Why? If there is a specific version and lower where it doesn't actually work, I'd say that would be sufficient information. But I tried it on r12XXX, didnt work, r22XXX it works, so there might be somewhere in between.

However, the patchpacks with daylength patch is broken, all cities shrink, so there is only the old patchpacks that are currently working.

Thanks, Pikka, for this great mod. I was getting very tired of the old planes being unbalanced and having no logical progression. The correction of these issues, and the beautiful new graphics, have renewed my interest in this remake of an old favourite game.

I just wanted to make sure these planes are balanced according to the standard 'move at 1/4 displayed speed' setting. I began a game in 1940 (currently 1954) and none of the planes have made a profit, and not for lack of cargo. Of course, my running costs have been set to 'high' and I imagine things will change when I get the first big airport.

When using planes, especially passenger jets you need frequent full loads flying over a decent distance to make money. Unlike in real life its not very profitable on OpenTTD to have commuter airlines (having planes fly city to city in a short distance). If you service even 4-5 big cities spaced out on a map you'll make a few bucks (I once had 4 planes making 2 million USD servicing 3 huge cities)

Thanks. The airports are not that far apart due to the lower speeds of the new airplanes but that is clearly not the way to go.

The aircraft will have lower running costs when used with lower planespeeds, however, as you've found, its hard to make money in these circumstances with the slower aircraft. Indeed, I'm putting a warning in 2.0 that lower planespeeds, while supported, are not recommended.

It's worth noting that while TTD quartered the planespeeds, those speeds were unrealistically fast to begin with. For example, the two early aircraft in TTD, the junkers and the dc3, both travel at an indicated 320mph, much faster than the real aircraft (and the av8 versions).

Which speed setting should this mod be played with then? It sounds like you did not use the default 1/4 when balancing the new planes.

Wow, that is way too fast for me. They look odd moving at that speed (even the 951 km/s ones) and I can see after just four months of this that my airplane earnings are about to skyrocket. I have reached 1979 and even at 1/4 the income was quite good. I am going to try 1/3 and 1/2, though, to see how everything looks and works, if only to have the planes keep moving faster than the trains.

My annual financial report tells me that the previous year (with four months of 1/1, and the rest at 1/3) had the same running costs as the year prior to that where the speed was 1/4.

Because he is talking about what will be in the future 2.0 that is not released today.

No I'm not, I'm talking about something which has always been the case.
