So, I had my interview yesterday for the trainee train driver. Not sure how it went to be perfectly honestly, but I should hear back in a few days as to whether I've progressed to the assessment centre.

Apparently, for the Liverpool based job there were in total 243 applications, only 15 made it to interview (including me!) and these 15 are competing for only 4 driver positions.

... :(

Sorry to hear that... - but keep trying! I'm sure you'll get the job in the end! It sounds ridiculously competitive and you did amazingly well to make it that far!

I still work as a train driver at N.S. (Dutch Railroads).
Started with that in 1974, when most of you weren't even born.

Drove all kind of trains there, like huge ore-trains, mail and maintenance trains.
Now a days our company has only passenger trains.
Learned about 37 different types of trains, from loc 1000 and mat '46 till SLT light train now.

At end of the year the new revised Ddmz comes on that list too.

Chevy,

I wouldn't mind working those old NS trains, the 1200s, 1500s and those EMUs and DMUs I'd like to drive.
Very much a retired regular poster..... If you can say that

Not strictly railway but a development nonetheless. Sitting here, in Birmingham, applying for Christmas Temporary jobs in order to get money and some much needed experience. I have been invited to an 'Express Yourself Day' with National Express at Digbeth Coach Station. Hurrah.
