Go to java.com, underneath "Get it now" select "Manual download", and then "Windows - offline installation". Run the .exe file you get. Done.

Of course, if you can't even do that without screwing up, click the big "Get it now!" button and watch it install itself. That method is truly idiot-proof.

The get it now button brings me to a "This page cannot be displayed" screen.

yea i get that on my windows 98 machine... tried java.com several times on that, and always wondered why there wasn't one, for some reason somehting blocks some computers seing that site properly, or atall.

Err.. on win XP..
We encountered an issue while trying to automatically install Java™ software onto your machine. As a result, Java software was not installed properly.
Oh. err.. :D

Nothing is idiot proof, even without the precense of a bigger idiot, someone created computers....

well.. i decided to do a complete rewrite of my program in C++ after all... so in a couple of days there will be a new version as a simple .exe (or linux binary :P)

... and source code? Who knows, perhaps I might get really bored and build an RPM out of it :)

I did little progam, what will start Map Creator WITH!!!!! doubleclik

1. dowload java from http://java.sun.com/
2. open mapedit.bat

I apoligize for the dig. A 7 year dig.....anywho. Why was development stopped? I see the download for the map creator is no longer working.

So what happened?

Who knows, no-one who posted back then is around anymore (with the exception of Owen).

For future reference, if a topic has had no posts since 2005, and lasted only a page and a half, it's safe to assume it didn't amount to much in the 1st place and should be left dead. Bear this in mind if you feel tempted to dig an ancient topic again.
