stelepe's screenshot memories

Post by stelepe »

Hello fellow transport tycoons, this is the birth of a new screenshot thread. Before you say "oh no, not another screenshot thread", my aim is to keep this thread interesting, frequently updated and a welcome place for all to discuss my screeshot memories. I am going to try and keep this as a diary type thing, but about my different companies.

So, down to business.

Today saw the birth of Wonga Transport, a successful franchise which has decided to run cheap, yet high quality services. The first rail routes were acquired from a previous debt ridden company.

The rail network consisted of an East and West mainline and two branch lines. One of these branches connecting the two mainlines. Below is a network map and a few first screenshots.

Soon after the 'honeymoon period', things start to hiccup, there's a signal failure further down the Western Mainline where it separates into a branchline as well.

not bad - map is a little "dry" though with no landscape and totally straight lines - nice idea with the faliure btw

Thanks for the comment. I do agree my map is rather bland. But I'm kinda weird when it comes to openttd. I like a completely flat map and towns placed in such a way I can build a satisfying network. Basically I like a realistic network running to a timetable, hence the departure boards and wall clock patch. But thats just me in my weird little way.

The real cause for the delay was my fault for you see, signalling is not my strong point. I only use presignals and basic signals, I'm not entirely sure how to use the others.

Anyway, the cause was where the Western Mainline parts to the Branch line. I didnt signal it correctly so I went for the easy option and built a flyover.

I will try and get a few more screens up this weekend.

Hi all and sorry for not keeping you updated.

I have been busy with college but I have finished for the year now so I can do some serious Openttd-ing.

As well as trying to make new sprites for BROS, I am going to start work on an East of England map for Openttd. The only thing is that I am using a lot of new .grf's and I'm also using the departure boards patch. When it's completed I'll post some screenshots.

For now, here's a few shots from a new map I was playing last night. Unlike my previous map, this one actually has landscape!

My company is called Big Wallet Transport, and I have a mainline which serves quite a few towns. I'm mainly running Class 91's on the express going non-stop from each end of the line to the other end and class 321's on the sub-urban commuter route.

This is my first post on this forum so I want to say HELLO to everyone. I was watching your screenshot memories and there's one thing that interested me especially. I mean, the time and days counter in your status bar. I see you are using DEPARTURE BOARDS WALLCLOCK patch and it looks familliar for me but i didn't find any option showing that days counter you have.

Can you tell what patch are you using, please? Thanks a lot.

The reason for the large amount of tracks is because I build my network first then buy all the trains. It sounds weird I know, it's just the way I play.

I have some new screenshots from Tightwad Transport. I was offered to buy a failing Transport Company, I declined because I'm focussing on passenger transport and they ran freight. Tightwad Transport only has one freight contract. I know some of you would have bought the freight company but as I said earlier, I play openttd in some weird ways.

Anyway, on with the screenshots...

Ach! The needlessly tight corners are painful to behold! Methinks you should consider making them much more gradual (see: http://wiki.openttd.org/Corners and http://wiki.openttd.org/Game_mechanics#Trains).

I've been lurking about looking at openttd screenshots and there are some really good ones. Well done to all. These brilliant screenshots made me want to play openttd again. So I did.

I'm using many newgrfs, too many to list but I'm happy that I can use UK Rail Set, DBSet XL (+FIRS addons) and North American Rail Set together. I'm also using Aviators Plane Set and lots of road vehicle newgrfs.

My company is White Knuckle Transport running trains, planes buses and mail trucks. It consists of five rail stations.
Five trains. About 9 buses and 8 mail trucks. I also have two airports serviced by about 7 planes. All services are running frequently.

A few years have passed for White Knuckle Transport, over these years a new mainline which runs along the coastline of the map has been built. It is serviced by AL6 locomotives hauling a rake of 8 coaches.

As can be seen in the first picture, the length of the line.

In the second picture, you can see the expansion of Sesdnor Station's two new platforms with an AL6 with its rake of coaches embarking on its scenic journey along the coast.

You could optimize your terminus stations by using PBS signals at stations exits too.

Further it to be a little overkill of tracks.
