I'm guessing it's because it became popular.
Some people only play games when they're not wildly popular.

It's a rather silly display of elitism, but eh.

I'm not hipster, it's mostly about community.

Everyone knew everyone. There were no haters and no kids. I can't play game without discussion... But discussion on todays Minecraft Forums is like on 4chan.

Wow, our server was abandoned one year ago... I even have nostalgia when scrolling back in this thread.

Time flies.

The server we have now with a few friends is very nice, everyone's just building things and respecting one another's creations - the server's owner wrote a bit of code so enemies only spawn in the nether.

Anyway, now upcoming in the newest update are pistons, which look amazing. Finally I can build me that moving door, and all those awesome things. I'm *really* excited. :D

Creative or SMP? I'm still looking for a good creative server.

I play at mc.dope-s***.nl, it has a big team of mods and other people keeping the peace and it runs quite a few mods that I like :) like FalseBook for instance. Basically it has one big city that people can build in, and people who show good building skills get the ability to spawn items if they want to.

Especially that hidden entrance thing (near end of the video) - could be very useful...

Ugh... I always find the name of that mod so pretentious.
There's some neat stuff in there, but to call it "Better than Wolves" just... feels wrong.

Like the addition of wolves was some affront to humanity, or something.

Meh...

Agreed. That and the fact that they re-used the soul sand texture for the cement, which somehow annoys me. Also, they have that awful "Who let the dogs out"-song in their video. Actually, I think I just dislike the entire thing.

Yeah, I just mute his videos too.

This also shows why I don't like community. They kind of often forget that Notch made whole thing. And worst of all, they weren't around when he was making daily updates... And whine about all the new features. When they start about how Jeb is a lot better dev than Notch..

Anyways, mod is awesome in my opinion, one of the better ones out there, constantly updated and modder's listening to people. Best of all, it's not "hardcore industrial" stuff that uses lots of iron.

Several of my changes of underwear did not make it unharmed through that video. Truly the most epic one so far, or at least since the train straight one. I recently discovered there's more of those, too.

Undoubtedly, you've already read Notch's blog.
If not, I suggest you go there to read what we may expect, among other things (!), of Minecraft 1.8.
