Default American setup scenario?

Default American setup scenario?
When I go to start a new game what files etc. will I need to setup an American game? I figured out dollars vs. pounds and Imperial vs. Metric but I'd like town names and buildings and trucks and trains and planes and boats and everything else. I'd love a oneclick solution for this of course but I'm not finding it. I guess a lot of Americans don't play this game?
Thanks,
Matthew

Re: Default American setup scenario?
Search for NARS (North Amercian Renewal Set or Road Set) on these forums and go from there.
Re: Default American setup scenario?
Well i m sure a little search on the forum would have taken you to some topics like North american road set, or train set...
or even easier, if you had checked the ingame online content(oneclick solution), i bet you would find some of those new grf to make your ottd feel amercian.

NARS 2

Canadian Station Set
North American Signals
North American Town / City Set

US Town Names
Drive on right
$US
Also fences off (detail menu option).
Also consider Canadian Train Set, US Renewal Set
HEQS is generic with respect to territory, but has vehicles for US
FISH same, although will include more US stuff in future
FIRS is a mix of industries from around the world, but clearly US influenced in some cases

Re: Default American setup scenario?
And just maybe NARVS (some buses, trucks and trams). It's incomplete though; you can get the newest version here.
--- Licenses: GNU LGPL, version 2 or newer, code and graphics. CC-By-SA, graphics, alternatively. If you're using any, I'd like to hear about it --- Call them "track types" ---

--- Need a file packer? 7-Zip --- BOINC - use your computing power to benefit science --- Block trackers, not ads --- Unix in dispersible pellets, the formula for the future. ---

Re: Default American setup scenario?
Thank you andythenorth, exactly the kind of thorough list and kind reply I was looking for. I'll go right down the list and start a game. Very much appreciated.

Re: Default American setup scenario?
Lots of Americans DO play this game, although we like to play the other NewGRF sets from time to time just for variety...seedmuse wrote:When I go to start a new game what files etc. will I need to setup an American game? Here's a link to one of my posts in the Screenshot forum, providing a list of NewGRFs and advanced settings for North American play:
http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=48654
Keep in mind that this game is about 9-10 months old, so some of the GRFs (particularly those related to ECS, a "must have" for NARS as far as I'm concerned) may have been updated, but it will help give you the general idea...
As an aside, if you want to make your own North American scenario, here are some large heightmaps with rugged terrain that you might find of interest...

Re: Default American setup scenario?
Honestly, Americans are a real minority here, compared to other games.Espee wrote:Lots of Americans DO play this game
My (not scientifically founded) estimation is about:
- 60% German, Dutch, British (about equal share each)
- 20% other european
- 10% american
- 10% rest of the world

Well, Chris Sawyer was British. Scottish, to be specific.

Re: Default American setup scenario?
Espee, your gameplay is an inspiration! A guy like me, though, just wants a simple game with American objects and an american feel. I can see myself using a more realistic map too but that's about it for now. As I play more I may get to your level, but that might be a while from now.
So for a guy like me can you walk me through how I would set up a game in OTTD to suite my needs. Thank you so much for your time!

Re: Default American setup scenario?
Hi! If you browse through GRFCrawler, you can find more US stuff, such as US roads and US stations.
Some of these may on BaNaNaS (the online content download.)
In no particular order here are the "US" GRFs I use:
Aviators Aircraft (av8) v.1.81
General av8ion v.0.2 {light aircraft}
Generic Cars v0.4 {use with a street traffic AI}
North American Renewal Set (NARS) 2.03 {trains}
HEQS (Heavy Equipment Set) 1.0
US Town Names 1.0
Bigger Train Depot
Light-rail/Tramtracks
Sailing Ships
FISH 0.9.0 {FISH is ships}
Combined North American Signals v1.1
North American City Set v0.1c
North American Roads Set v1.0
Pikka's Basic Industries v1.5 {not really US, but I find it suits my gameplay style}
US Stations set v0.86 (09 Jan 2006)
Industrial Stations Renewal v0.8.0
eGRVTS v1.0 {just ignore the double-decker buses}
I also recommend the following GRFs although I don't use them at present:
Brick Tram Depot v0.2
Early Houses
FIRS Industry Replacement Set {really looks more like US, but I prefer PBI.}
Long Vehicles v5
LRVS - Light Road Vehicle Set(r7)
McDonald's
Modular Locomotive Sheds 0.2.6 {Roundhouses and shops!!!}
NH train depot v0.1 {old wooden depot}
North American Road Vehicles {incomplete}
US Train Set version 0.87.3 {love it, but NARS2 is cooler}

Did you know that the a:s stand for "and". Thus the correct capitalization is BaNaNaS.ostlandr wrote:bAnAnAs
