Could some-one check this please?
I'm trying out the RoRo station setup, this is my 1st one.
Is this the correct setup?
Cheers

a picture would be easier to check...

Re: Could some-one check this please?
Looks pretty good - i personally tend to have the waiting lanes going out but thats just preference

Re: Could some-one check this please?
Nothing really wrong in your setup. You could replace all your path signals with block signals without any behaviour change (except for a minor behaviour change at your depot).

Re: Could some-one check this please?
For more speed, you could avoid the sharp turns near the entrance.
Other than that, nice!

Re: Could some-one check this please?
Why would you make those waiting lanes? They only delay your trains, and you run the risk of trains entering the wrong block when there's room in another block. There is no downside to having your trains wait on the same line, unless the queue becomes so long they start blocking the mainline. But that's matter of proper track layout.
Also you should really try to make your turns more friendly. Like this they will really slow down trains. You even have a 90 degree turn. That's bad (and in fact illegal with realistic acceleration)

Re: Could some-one check this please?
Cheers for the info Diadem,
Have you got a pic of what would be better?
I will make sure the depots are better placed
Question though,
What would be the max number of platforms to use before it become inefficient and clogs the outward track?
Cheers

Re: Could some-one check this please?
Well I personally believe in wide designs. I use a lot of space, and generally I'd rather build an extra track then run the risk of things clogging up. I only just started my current game, and I deleted all my old saves recently, so I can't give you a screenshot of a really busy station.
But in general something like the below screenshot is, I think, the optimum design. You can make the entrance lanes longer or shorter depending on how much room you have and how much speed you want. If trains are right behind eachother and the first one enters the closest platform, he will slow down before clearing the entry signal, causing the second train to have to wait. If you make the entrance lanes longer this won't happen, but it requires more space.
I believe 4 is the right number of platforms for a busy single line. At least for unloading your trains can't really use more - that is the 1st train will be done unloading and have left before the 5th arrives.

Re: Could some-one check this please?
That really depends on the train set or particular waggons you're using. Some waggons, such as flatbed container trucks in Tropic Refurbishment, or Centerbeam Flatbed in US Set, have almost instant unloading time, while others, such as default train set, have rather slow unloading.Diadem wrote:I believe 4 is the right number of platforms for a busy single line. Also, the time for the train to enter/exit the platform area will also contribute to best number of platforms. That means dependency on length of trains, acceleration and its top speed.
Re: Could some-one check this please?
cheers for the pic diadem,
Ill give that a whirl.
Ill give that a whirl.

Re: Could some-one check this please?
Hey guys, Back again
Ive been trying out 3 stations, 1 line 2 separate destinations if you catch my drift.
Does this work? could it be better?
Have a look in the bottom left of this map,
cheers

Screenshot?
I can't load the savegame because one GRF (openttd_plus.0.1\ottdpp.grf) cannot be found. It is on my computer... but the game is unable to find it there.

For the next time, could you please cut off some non-interesting parts of your screenshot before posting? You are just wasting disk space and bandwidth with a screen shot of all that empty world.
As for your question: what about building a bridge?
Note: I also tested with your signal density of 1, and the result was worse.

Re: Could some-one check this please?
Will do bud.
Im gonna throw that double bridge in and leave the other route as an over flow.
Would you recommend a signal every 3 tiles?

Re: Could some-one check this please?
I would recommend a signal every 6 to 10 tiles or so, but that is just how I like to build.CaNsA wrote:Would you recommend a signal every 3 tiles?
Trains breaking down kill far more capacity than a shorter block size can give me anyway

By making the sections longer before the bridge, the next train that comes in will more often take the other bridge, I noticed.
Re: Could some-one check this please?
Hey Alberth,
How is this working out?
Im making it up as i go along, no set "plan" as such.

Re: Could some-one check this please?
I also play without making a plan. It usually makes you rebuild everything two or three times, so you get lots of opprtunities to build tracks
I am missing the ttdp+ grf due to /me playing with trunk.
When I try to load it anyway, all oil trains move back & forth a single tile at a speed of 1km/h
Whether the missing newgrf is the cause, or the fact that you changed newgrfs after game start, I don't know.
Looking from the quite static picture, I'd change the oil rig line such that trains can go to each station from the refinery station. Also, add a line from each station back to the refinery station.
Then use orders like
1. load from Wrunningstone annexe
2. if not 100% loaded goto 4
3. unload at Prondhall Valley
4. load from Wrunningstone sidings
5. if not 100% loaded goto 7
6. unload at Prondhall Valley
7. load from Upper Wrunningstone
8. if not 100% loaded goto 10
9. unload at Prondhall Valley
10. load from Lower Wrunningstone
11. unload at Prondhall Valley
that way, all oil stations get better serviced.
I am not much of a fan of these big stations far away from the city, but each his style of playing
