New York Area Scenario !NEW! Test Version
New York Area Scenario !NEW! Test Version
Hi all
I m proudly presenting you in this post my latest scenario ! It s a Test Version ! but i m almost sure very enjoyable allready !
The map is, as you all guessed, about New York and it s surrounding. The map is based on real heightmap(except a little part of it, and the river that had to be hand remade).
I tried to respect as much as possible the geography of cities, but i m not perfect, if you spot something really wrong tell it "in this thread".
There is not yet any industry on the map, it is not yet planned to do a version with it (though, i still included FIRS industry grf so that they pop up during the games).
Cities are allready road connected (or not far from a road)
Also the map size is 256x256, wich might seem small, but i tried the two bigger size for the same map and the 256 was fitting the best i believe !
Tell me here or by PM any comment and/or suggestion!
for the grf needed, check screenshots
Enjoy
Edit: I always forget something, i created the map wiht OTTD V1.05,
but i suggest you to download one of chillpactchpack version, cause you ll need for sure many of the great patches included to it (autoseparation, signals on bridges and in tunnels, cargodist, and much more wich is always welcome on a very busy network)

Re: New York Area Scenario !NEW! Test Version
Hello again all
I tried my map, and definitely thought that its too small ! so i right away started my work again and remade the map in 512x512.
So i hope this one will be the right one ! again it s a test version as i never played it, but i believe it s not far from a final version (i wait for comment to know what could make this map even better than it is)
Check screenie for grf list and for a view on the map.

It definitely needs a lot more people. You don't have to leave that much space, only the bare minimum needed to set up train lines (or none at all if you want to be mean
).
Other than that, I would love to play it.

So here is a version with more people at the center of the map, i like to start early, and make grow everything, but i understand some would like to start directly with in a huge city.
Feel free to improve the map, or adapt it to your taste (growing cities ain t that hard in editor),
also i should notice you that the cities are originally built with "best roads" as default even if they are all in 3x3 style right now! this was intented to be sure every spot would be filled even if you change the grid (cities seeded in 3x3 leave roads spot free and never build on them ). also check advanced option, road construction for cities is right now disabled.
And of course just do not forget to credit me for the map and scenario base in the case you make a release.

Thank you. By the way, is it made from a heightmap or by hand?

Re: New York Area Scenario !NEW! Test Version
You re welcome,
and yes, it s from an heightmap(see first post...), but because image was not square(not 2056x2056) there is the top and bottom of map that are not accurate at all (no water up from Paterson, for example, also Staten island miss a part).
Also note that i had to enlarge the smallest rivers (to be sure they are not filled up by buildings on slopes), and for the gameplay, i added some higher hills (original heighmapt was making everything quite flat, and nothing upper than 4 or 5 tiles high)
Cities are i think in very accurate position, that s where i spent most of the time with this map.
Voila

Re: New York Area Scenario !NEW! Test Version
I had a look at your scenario. Really nice, I like details.
Especially the idea how you save the Central Park from the growing towns.
The Canadian stations grf that you use is outdated and I had some problems finding all grfs to start the scenario.
There are is no metro tracks set, so the subway has to use monorails.
