VIA GMD F40PH-2D?
I knew about the F40PH and the F40PH-2 but it seems there are others out their like the F40PH-2D. I'd like to know what makes the F40PH-2D different (aside from the bulge and extra length in the rear) from the others.

How about the Winnebago here:

F40PHM-2. I think Metra was the only (original) buyer of them, though...

Heh, looks like a early attempt at making a slightly more stream lined look for commuter trains like the EMD F59PHIRailwaymodeler wrote:How about the Winnebago here:

Re: VIA GMD F40PH-2D?
haha yeah I did that at first... was expecting it to be a spam topic for a moment, then I realised that GMD and F40PH weren't graphics cards, unless nVidia dramatically changed their naming conventions again - chances are it'd STILL be a rebadged 8800GTX though.

Re: VIA GMD F40PH-2D?
Definitely more attractive than the original F40 cab. Looks like Metra had these built from 10/91 to 12/92, then EMD came out with the F59PHI in '94. Coincidence?

You forgot No. 19
They're also repainting them into Renaissance to resemble the P42's, and I must say, it's a gorgeous paint scheme on these units. I was glad to see there's a few floating around here south of Toronto now.

Heh, Im surprised they still keep F40's around since they're so old now, most where made in the late 80's, early 90's and now its 2011DanMacK wrote:You forgot No. 19

While I like the Renaissance scheme, I for one will miss the old scheme

That's nothing, in Germany we still have 218s from all through the seventies around.NekoMaster wrote: Heh, Im surprised they still keep F40's around since they're so old now, most where made in the late 80's, early 90's and now its 2011

Re: VIA GMD F40PH-2D?
In widespread use we still have the Class 43 aka Intercity 125 which was introduced in 1976, as well as the class 313/314/315/507/508 EMUs from 1976. In terms of older traction still in use you have the class 20 from 1957, class 73 from 1962, class 47 from 1962 as well as the rebuilt class 57s and the class 37 from 1960. In terms of british trains a very high percentage were built in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Re: VIA GMD F40PH-2D?
Some of these locomotives are like my Granddad's old hammer, which he said was 200 years old and belonged to his great-great-grandfather. It had had the handle replaced seven times, and the head twice.
Seriously, once you replace the prime mover, generators, electronics, and traction motors, is it still the same locomotive?
