More interestingly, we were held up for about 5-10mins outside the Wolverhampton Road McDonalds. Some guy tried to get on with a burger in a bag, but the driver refused to let him. He refused to get off. A war of attrition took place with the driver switching off the engine and leaving the bus until the McDonalds idiot got off. Personally I thought the driver was in the right, but the other passengers didn't think so. Thoughts?

Any pictures to make a comparason or do we have to take your word for it, Jamie. Also as for the food thing, if it was obvious he was going ot eat on the bus then the bus driver is in the right. I mean if he'd had bags from tesco or sainsburys I would say the opposite would have been true.

To be fair, it's a bit jobsworthy, that. I mean yes, it's against the rules but it's a bloody Big Mac for christ's sake. Just get on doing your job.

I've nowt against food on public transport, I've eaten enough chips and garlic sauce on the Metro.

A bit pedantic really, wouldn't get a train not going anywhere because someone wanted a burger.

Yes, but on trains there is nothing telling you eating/drinking is not allowed unlike on busses where there are.

I don't see what the problem is as long as the person doesn't leave litter on the bus. That's the sort of incident that puts people off using public transport - and as he was 14, it'll probably get in the local paper and the bus company will get it in the neck, especially if there was a long wait for the next bus. Very silly.

Sorry - just to make it clear, the Dave Worley lookalike was not the same person who had the McDonalds! - The only reference to the 14 year old guy was because I thought it was amusing

Secondly, the McDonalds guy was in his early 20s, and was VERY persistent as anyone in their right mind (who was going to literally just the next stop as he claimed) would have got off and walked. It actually says pretty clearly (in about the same prominence that you must have a valid ticket to travel) that you must not eat or drink on the bus. I suppose it's just enforcing a rule that most drivers don't really care about.
