I Know what you mean my mate works for Southeastern Trains as a Guard and he's had to take time off for stress because of idiots.

I met an engineer who worked for VIA, he was running the train and hit some guy who decided to try to beat the train. Upon contact (the train was doing track speed, which was 80 MPH), both the driver and passenger were killed, their child survived because it was in a child seat. That's something both the engineer and conductor have to live with for the rest of their lives. People who tempt fate will eventually get burned.

It astonishes me that some of those people can't wait 2 or 5 minutes to wait for a passing train. I couldn't imagine throwing your life on the line in such a stupid way.

A friends dad was in a pub when a man that was as white as a sheet walked in. The barman asked what had happened and it transpired that he was a train driver. Te train he was driving had just hit a car that was purposefully parked on the level crossing (suicidal man), and had taken it a mile down the track. The driver walked all the way back to the level crossing in the rain to get help.
