Hi all,
I am studying Civil Engineering in the Transportation department. Last week we had a tour to the light rail project in Jerusalem. Construction began in April 2006, and the first line is due to completion in April 2011.
The project is a BOT (Build, Operate, Transfer) and Jerusalem municipality should gain control over the project in 2036.
The project is built by the "Citypass" group which is composed of:
Harel Insurance Investments and Financial Services Ltd (Israel)
Polar Investments LTD (Israel)
Ashtrom Group LTD (Israel)
Alstom Transport (France)
Veolia Transport (France)
The locomotives been used are Alstorm Citadis-302, built in France.
The first line is "The Red Line" from Pisgat-Zeev to Mount Hertzel, through the city center.
