Complex Railroad Systems

Post by Ildefonse »

Hey all,

I was just wondering, maybe it´s an interesting idea to post some save games here with (one of) your most complex railroad constructions throughout the level.

I won´t post mine here now cause it is not finished yet, but I will do so soon. In the meantime, feel free to post yours here.

Greets,

Adam

Here is mine

OK here is mine. It´s by far not finished, but it´s a start. I saved it just after I had reached 2050. The difficulty settings were:

No competitors
Max Loan: $200.000
Interest: 4%
Hilly terrain
High construction costs
High vehicle running costs
Reduced breakdowns
No disasters
Steady economy

Also note, that I do use the funcion UNLOAD as it was originally meant, thus, when you use unload to drop of products on a station en-route, you have to change it in order to view my save game. (Otherwise it will all become a mess, trains not unloading stuff properly :P )

Anyway, enjoy the show.

I´ve looked at your game Matt, it´s nice I must say, however, there are some design, well wouldn´t want to call it errors, but rather flaws. Some seconds after I loaded the game, a deadlock occured on the crossing just before the main station (where the focus is when you load the game). A train was waiting to go into the station while it couldn´t because other trains first had to go out while they couldn´t because the first one was blocking the exit.

Now I´ve had the same problem with my major stations and in fact it was even worse because I send all farm products and all steel to just one factory. Anyway, the solution I´ve found is to make the exit of the station at the other end, to just seperate them. This way exiting trains can´t ever be blocked by incoming trains and thus causing deadlocks.

Just have a look at my factory station, steel station and coal station. They are all major busy, but they can handle it. It even can handle depots. That is, trains entering a station may decide to go to a depot first, and then by a loop go back to the station without blocking any other trains.

It took me quite some time to find this optimal system with depots and with loading and unloading trains combined on the same tracks but it works now. And I only had to use 3 waypoints on the whole route. (Of which one I added just to be sure)

Well, enough with the reading, just have a look at my save game and tell me what you think.

Adam

Yeah I know its not perfect and the system does fail sometimes.

The way you said works better I agree but the problem is with space. It takes up abput 2 or 3 times more space than than the ones I used in that game.

Oh and btw. I had a look at your game. You have a good rail system but it looks like you need to expend a lot more. You haven´t taken up hardly any of the map for 2050.

Ah yes but thats my goal! To connect everything with everything on a as small though efficient railsystem as possible. I have just recently connected all forests. However, I stumbled upon a great problem... see my new post at the problem forum.
