Too damn small signals
When being around in the eighties, playing the very first version of Transport Tycoon, almost 30 years later the game still fascinates me, however the game is fine, my eyes getting worse and the resolution of today monitors getting smaller, bigger etc.
I have a bit of a problem seeing the right signals, not that i cannot find them (hahaha) no, just to tell witch one i placed earlier.
Would it be nice that if i have a zoom function when hovering above the signal for, let say, two seconds, or a button that zooms everything in a (not too small) box?
That is really handy, i think.
I hope it is possible, because my waif told me exact the same thing "I can't really tell witch signal there is, i just click several times and keep count."
I hope this improves the way we can use those signals.
Thanks...

Re: Too damn small signals
I'd say use at most 1280x800 for OpenTTD, no higher and you'll be fine.

NewGRF: Oil Wells in Temperate terrain now can Increase production, Better vehicle names, Use-able default aircraft, Oil Rig for Snowland and Desert, Speed for Suspension bridges.
Patches (OpenTTD): Improved smooth_economy [in trunk], More (diesel) smoke [in trunk], Realistic_acceleration finetune.
Keep 'em rollin'!

Re: Too damn small signals
TTD has only been released in 1994, that makes it just 16 years old
Anyway, to go back to your question, try a different signal set, they might show different kinds of signals better. Or try using the land information tool; the big question mark on the far right of the main toolbar.

TT wasn't from the eighties.. but in the nineties! 1994 original game and 1996 the deluxe version.Mr.Killer wrote:When being around in the eighties, playing the very first version of Transport Tycoon, almost 30 years later the game still fascinates me, however the game is fine, my eyes getting worse and the resolution of today monitors getting smaller, bigger etc.

May I lend your time machine?
Seriously, though; get a big[/i] monitor and play the game on in a lower resolution (1600x1200 on a 40" plasma screen ought to do the job) with full screen mode. That should fix your problem.
Another solution might be to use a magnification tool (most OS's have these, so no problem there).

Or if you're happy playing the current latest stable version (0.7.5), then check out the 32bpp Extra Zoom Levels project. Even if you are not using the 32bpp sprites, this gives you two extra zoom-in levels with the standard 8bpp graphics.
I really do wish the extra zoom levels would be included in the upcoming 1.0.0 release.

Re: Too damn small signals
it sounds like it shouldn't be too ahrd (but im not a programmer, so what do i know). there's already a function for a separate viewbox, so could a zoom function not be incorporated into that?
Just doing what I can to help

I might be not so correct on the date, but in the eighties i WAS playing games that preceded Transport Tycoon. But that was not really my question. The more you can see of the game, the more you can keep track off.
So, gents, is this going to be a no-go, or a GO-situation?

Re: Too damn small signals
there might be the possibility for an additional zoom in level in the future, but afaik nobody is currently working on this. there is "32bpp extra zoom", but it's unlikely that this is going to be adapted in the official version.

Re: Too damn small signals
I think signals are too small because of the OpenGFX graphic, the original signals from the Transport Tycoon Deluxe were bigger
Re: Too damn small signals
I will agree, the standard block signals are too small IMO, although I'm guessing they're designed to look like dwarf signals that sit low to the ground. If you use the path-based signals, those graphics are much more noticeable. And if you use the semaphore signals, those are REALLY noticeable.
