Network Rail strike called off

Post by JamieLei »

... so therefore my train home will still run and I'll no longer be stranded in London!

Hurrah!

Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/ap ... ed-strikes
BBC News Report: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8598456.stm

Irregularities in the balloting included (from the Guardian):

• balloting 11 signal boxes that have been closed for years

• recording more votes than employees in 67 locations

• failing to ballot 26 workplaces involving 100 staff

• balloting 12 locations where staff were ineligible to vote.

Silly union...

So they'll re-ballot, probably still come out as a "strike" and end up doing it at a more inconvenient time than the week after easter.

How is "the week after a highly important weekend in a school holiday" not inconvenient?

The votes that weren't cast were enough to sway the vote - that's just how it is.

It was also meant to start on the day I'm heading back to the US, and as such need to get to the airport. Still not entirely sure I will trust the trains to actually get me there though, shall perhaps enquire as to the approximate cost of a taxi, and only try the trains if it is especially excessive!

(The trains did get me there and back happily enough last time, but it involves two changes, which is a bit smelly with lots of luggage.)

Isn't that the point of being a cab driver?

Why not? Better than you driving. I wouldn't make all the announcements in Welsh for a start.

If you're sure but since you've met my wife, really - think about it - do you really want to?
