Not working 32bpp graphics...please help

Post by TheJaguar »

hi. I have a problem that I can't solve in any way, that's why I need your help please.

I have openttd-32bppextrazoom-r17832-windows-win64-v12 build for supporting max zooming and also 32bpp graphics, also I have Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit, I think it's the same as Windows 7 64-bit because they have the same kernel. I edited openttd.cfg to support the 32bpp graphic by adding

blitter = 32bpp-optimized, after the line 'blitter = '

in the misc section, and also on the shortcut at the end of the target field, the parameter "-b 32bpp-optimized"

In the Game Menu, under the "NewGRF Settings, I clicked Add to have in that list the "OpenGFX Base Graphics Set for OpenTTD", I clicked Apply and I've returned to the main menu.

The .tar files with the 32bpp graphics I've tried any location
1. into the data directory from the openttd-32bppextrazoom-r17832-windows-win64-v12 directory, meaning "openttd-32bppextrazoom-r17832-windows-win64-v12\data"
2. in the "C:\\Users\<User name account>\My Documents\OpenTTD\content_download\data"
3. creating a bin\data folder under those parents folders and tried to put there the .tar files
4. I've tried also decompressing the .tar files into those folders

But nothing seems to work

I've tried:
Ben_Robbins_Temperate_Lines_32_xz.tar from http://jupix.info/openttd/gfxdev-repo/index.php?act=all
grass.tar

and others, but nothing

Please Help
If is anything I missed writing to you, please ask me
I've forgot something? I don't know what's wrong, but doesn't seem to work

My Computer Configuration is:
CPU: Intel E2220
4GB RAM DDR2 667Mhz
and ATI Radeon 4850

Thanks a lot

Make sure you are using the ogfx compatible tar files. Those tars are listed here.

He said that he uncompressed the tar files in all locations, so I doubt if that's the problem.

Could you please try setting your base graphics set to the original sprites instead of opengfx?

Only if you want to use the old tar files. I you want to use the latest tar files, you really need to set the base graphics set to OpenGFX. If you untar those files, make sure the folder structure keeps the same, so the sprites go to /OpenTTDfolder/data/sprites/ogfx1_base/.

Thanks a lot... now it's working. I've decompressed all .tar files in the data folder, creating automatically that structure /OpenTTDfolder/data/sprites

It's indeed quite beautiful these 32bpp graphics, I've known this game from the date it appeared and used to play at that time a lot, but I have another question for you...
in this build, patched build to support even those 2 more levels of zoom, when I'm zooming out, it's quite a little bit slow compared to official or nightly build. It is using antialising or what and it's a way to improve that in this build with some code line in .cfg file or something? It will be a big help for me, because after probably I will play a lot again and eventually I will have hundreds of trains, plane, etc, the game will be extremely slow, even on 1024x1024 map and I think I have a pretty decent CPU for the game.

If it's anything I can modify to work even better especially when zooming out, please tell me

Thank a lot again

Maybe, someone that can run it, can post a list of steps that permits try the new graphics. I follow all steps post in Wiki and does not work for me, just run with the original 8bpp graphics.

1) What version we need use?
2) Do we need download OpenGFX?
3) Do we need download OpenSFX?
4) Is 32bpp version different to nightly/trunk build?
5) When I copy (or extract) the TAR files. What do I need change in-game? Is automatic? or only Put and Run?

Thanks for your attention.

5) Don't extract the TAR files with the 32 bpp graphics. The only TAR file that You can extract is the file with the Open GFX files (OpenGFX.0.1.1.tar). But You only need to extract this file if It doesn't work when You place it in the OpenTTD32/data folder.

4) Yes, It's a different file, and I recomend you to install it in a different folder than the official OpenTTD installation. For example, install it in OpenTTD32, TTD32... OpenTTDalternative... If You install it in a different folder than OpenTTD, You will can play with 8bpp graphics or 32 bpp graphics with two extra zoom levels.

3) Only if You want play with free sounds.

2) Yes, because the TAR files will be coded only for OpenGFX.

1) You need the 32 bpp extra zoom levels patch:
http://wiki.openttd.org/32bpp_Extra_Zoom_Levels

Just download the latest version of the patch available. This is currently v12, which needs svn revision 17832. If you're using windows you can just use the procompiled windows binary.
2) Do we need download OpenGFX?
For the latest tar files you need to use OpenGFX, so you need to download it as well. ;)
3) Do we need download OpenSFX?
No. OpenSFX is about a sound replacement project and has nothing to do with graphics.
4) Is 32bpp version different to nightly/trunk build?
Yes. The latest nightly build will problable not work with the patch.
5) When I copy (or extract) the TAR files. What do I need change in-game? Is automatic? or only Put and Run?
If you set OpenGFX as your base graphics set, OpenTTD should read the tar files automatically. If it doesn't read them, try to unpack them in the data folder.
Thanks for your attention.
No problem.

Probably not the 32bpp's fault, the build itself's fault.

Hi, first of all Happy new year!

Recently I was checking how far the progress with 32bpp was so I've downloaded all the 32bpp graphics I could find from this site: http://jupix.info/openttd/gfxdev-repo/i ... ?act=index
But the coast titels don't work very well.
To make myself more clear, here is a screenshot.
Does anyone know what's wrong?

It's strage, because I have the same file than the repository, and I don't see this problem.

I'm using the r17633, maybe I should update to the latest complided release.

I have the exact same issue however I think it has to do with the fact that there are several files double in the packs so it could be that it overwrites the good file with a bad one. However I use this build just to look since even the build itself has it's bugs. scrolling upwards on the highest zoom level is hardly working, but I do like the fact that there has been done a great deal of sprites already since I last checked it.

Don't extract it, just put the tar in your /data folder and start Openttd.exe with -b 32bpp-optimized. (Open a command window, switch to the directory and type what I just wrote)

I just can't get this going and I've been trying for a while. What I've done is...

1. Dowloaded the 32bit Windows file from http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?p=827794#p827794 and unzipped to a new folder.

2. Got the OpenGFX files from http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/opengfx/ and put them in under the /data folder.

3. Made changes to the .CFG file as per http://wiki.openttd.org/32bpp_Extra_Zoo ... _tar_files

4. Sourced one or two 32b graphics files such as 32bpp_fullzoom_trees.tar (I've tried them both packed and unpacked)

5. made sure I have OpenSFX and NOSOUND files in their right folders

6. even tried the -b 32bpp-optimized switch in my shortcut

I can zoom right in and out just fine, but the graphics are still 8 bit. Is there something obvious that I'm not doing right? What more info would help you to help me?

Much appreciated....
