I don't know why but if i play with your pack the running sound of NARS 2.03 is not as good as i play wit the cargodist patch ??

Maybe something is wrong with my compilation. Have you tried to compile it by yourself? Any difference then? Code I change don't touch sounds...

I really don't know what cause this sound issue - checked all patches separately and its OK. Waiting for cargo update and then will make new version of pack. Hope bug will disappear.

It could just be on the users end. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I read up on this issue when i the sound was annoying me and found it was a problem in the trunk rectified in a later version so not to worry. I'm using 0.9.2 at the moment because of that problem hopefully it doesn't crash as I spent two days making a scenario for it which I'm just playing.

I worked around it by turning of running sounds of the NARS.

Attached is a OSX build of v10 of this patch. (Its labelt r18045 as that was the trunk revision, r18047 was actually a commit on a branch)

I've created a forum with unlimited space for uploads, just create a post and attach it there, you can edit your post anytime and upload anything. Just make sure you post in the archive section.

I´ve played your server for a couple of times. It seems that every line that doesn´t connect two coal mines/forests to their respective secondary industries is bound to cost you money. So often if you join, and see there is no good line satisfying these criteria available there´s no point in even starting.
I´m all for making the game a bit harder, but I think you overshot your goal, and removed all the fun. Because even if you do manage to get that profitable coal line running, where do you go next? A large part of the fun in the game is expanding. If there´s only a couple of profitable lines, there´s no where to expand, and in multiplayer (when fast forward is disabled) you don´t want to wait for 10 years to be able to afford a new line.
Also, as it stands, infrastructure sharing is near useless: often no one has cash to pay for the fees!
As I said, I like the idea behind this, but it´s not really working for me yet. Or am I missing something here?

I agree that for start best is coal or wood but also sand and iron ore (I have successfully started also with oil - slower but its doable). But I can't agree that for others are only costs. If you know how to build you can still earn some cash. Patches in pack are still evolving so the difficulty for new players will be different then for those who already play for few years. You talking about expanding. With ECS vectors there is always way to expand current rote. You should be on server yesterday or two days ago - you would see combined routes with few cargo. We used IS and everything was OK - no problems with paying fees. Of course fee shouldn't be bigger then tax for tracks because then you might have right that no one will have cash for paying it.
I'm working now at new version of pack. It will be easier for new players so they will not have such problem with starting game.

And here is its! New version of pack - 1.1. I had to exclude IS2 and Cargo Distribution patches from pack because had some crushes in last version and I was not sure if they are because of those patches or all rest. So this version is more like check for rest patches if they are stable. If they are, after few days of testing I will bring back IS2 and cargo. Also updated Additional tax patch v0.1 so players will have easier at start. Merge with trunk (r18162).
Files are in first post (without new ecs vectors grfs).
News about server... are that I change few grfs. Unfortunately pack become so big that can't post it on form. Full Bigos pack (with all new grfs) can be downloaded from my site. From first post is pack without ECS vectors. Missing ECS vectors can be downloaded from author site.

One thing that would help create some harsh conditions, but still allowing you to expand is an improved loan system, such as this one.
The idea is that the maximum amount you can borrow increases as your company increases in value. The interest rate is variable, so if you borrow a lot, you pay a higher rate. This allows for quick expansion if the player wants, but is very risky and expensive. Alternatively, a simple bus service is very cheap, so could be built using less money, and hence a lower interest rate. The difference in return on the lines (coal lines take less time to pay for themselves) should be reflected in the difference in interest rates.
I think this might offer the player the choice whether they go for an expensive coal line (for which a lot of money would be necessary), and pay high interest, or choose a smaller line that has a lower return, but also allows the player to pay less interest.
I´m really not sure if this would work in the game, and it would probably need a lot of tweaking for it to work, but I think it´s worth thinking about making financing your company more flexible.

New version of pack. There was a bug - sometimes game crushed with assertion failed (supposedly fixed in trunk). Also I gave some more time players in financial trouble before bankruptcy since the expenses are now bigger then in normal game. Files in first post - current version 1.1.2.

Another way to improve your server might be to make the maps a bit bigger? There´ll be more options for ¨starter lines¨ that way.

Now its 512x512... and we have a lot of desyncs. Problem is that I don't know why :/ Maybe because tax... maybe because property maintenance. Starter line is much easier to build now because there is no taxes for first 2-3 years of company existence.
I'm thinking now about making patch that change building station restrictions so we can use bigger stations but only for trains. Later will try to update this patch with loans.

Since last version was unplayable in multi player (strange that for other players not for me) I made new version - 1.1.3. Merged with trunk (r18214). If still will be same then I will have to figure out something...
