Rhein-Mosel Eisenbahn 1955 part 2

Other scenes. Just south of Bergisch Gladbach the newest section of the Rheintalbahn, competed this year, crosses at grade the spur connecting the Mittelseebahn with the BASF plant. By the way, although this part of the Rheintalbahn is electrified it is used just by diesel and battery trains. Don't ask why  ...

Herne is still a very small village, but a lot of trains passes here as you see in the screenshot. From left: local Paderborn – Karlsruhe Pbf, grain/livestock Reutlingen Bf – Karlsruhe Gbf Efg, empty grain/livestock Karlsruhe Gbf Efg – Herne Lst, Eilzug Karlsruhe Pbf – Hamburg.

Ingolstadt in recent years has seen the construction of the S-Bahn line to Koblenz that follows a higher alignment than the original Moseltalbahn. There were plans to close the latter line but now, with the extension to Karlsruhe, the future is safe.

Thank you very much.

Rhein-Mosel Eisenbahn 1960

Just five years have passed since last installment, no big changes has happened but today  the RME is proud to be 40 years old and to have just pressed in service the 50th train. By the way, this is the game of mine with the highest number of trains; for others 50 trains are nothing but for me are a lot!

Some statistic and then the usual screenshots.

Standard gauge trains: 90%
Narrow gauge trains: 10%

Steam trains: 50%
Diesel trains: 28%
Electric (overhead) trains: 20%
Battery trains: 2%

Passenger trains: 56%
Freight trains (including mail-only trains): 44%

Profitable trains: 88%
Passive trains: 12%
Something that you cannot see more: because of works in Koblenz in June 1959 the Schnellzug Koblenz Rheinbahnhof – Karlsruhe Personenbahnhof was diverted via the Moseltalbahn. This event attracted various railfans: you can spot some of them photographing the train here at the Betriebsbahnhof Krefeld.

The works that caused the diversion of the Schnellzug were done to add two more tracks between the Rheinbahnhof and Rheinweiß station. At present this job has been suspended as the RME must expand the Rheinbahnhof and move Mönchengladbach station first but these duties are obstructed by local population. In the photo the Schnellzug from Karlsruhe is depicted again, this time on its usual route. Two S-Bahn trains in two different liveries are also taken in the picture.

Three more screenshots, all about train-ship interchanges.
In Kaiserslautern a modern harbour was built two years ago to provide transhipment of oil coming by ship from Hamburg and heading to the BASF plant in Bergisch Gladbach by train. In the photo the tanker "Kaiserslautern" is approaching to moor at the dock to feed the two trains while the fast steamer #051 is racing to Koblenz Rheinbahnhof.

Yes, the buffer is a relic of an old headshunt. Usually I don't remove useless tracks, I just disconnect them, see also this example with more abandoned tracks (that are without overhead: it was stolen by an unknown copper thief  ).

Rhein-Mosel Eisenbahn 1971 part 1

The RME presents its new luxurious train, the Rheingold, linking non-stop Koblenz with Göttingen.
Let's make a trip on this exciting train, leaded by a fast BR 103. Luckily now rail traffic isn't at its pike and the flashy loco can leave the Rheinbahnhof without problems.

By the way, today I want to show also the new harbor in Koblenz, built in the area of the former stabling sidings of the Moselbahnhof. Fuel oil unloaded here is loaded into that tank train than brings it to the AGIP fuel depot in Bielefeld. As this customer is in a odd position I had to build a headshunt inside a deadend tunnel.

Thank you, but I must admit that I was little inspired by you and your use of boats. By the way, the Moselbahnhof is under reconstruction as I need to have all three tracks with four-tile length. This means razing down the ancient sheds, sad but the progress needs its victims 8) .

Rhein-Mosel Eisenbahn 1977

Early 1970s saw the booming of oil traffic and its derivates. Will late 1970s see its disappearing? It can be. On four existing oil wells three closed one after other leaving expensive infrastructures under used or totally abandoned like the rail siding to Reutlingen Hafen.
The last train pulling in Reutlingen Hafen. The RME has decided to keep the track, who knows if it can be useful in the future.

Also agricultural and forest sectors are in crisis; in general freight train number is slowly decreasing while money is invested in new passenger-only railways, like the Nordseebahn...
Halle is the major town along the Nordseebahn. Fast trains, like that VT 11, connect it with Hamburg via Karlsruhe while it is possible to travel to Stuttgart and Koblenz by semi-fast and local trains.

... and the Bodenpaßbahn.
Hagen is a very nice city on the shores of the Bodensee (ehm...). The station features two short platform tracks for local trains and a longer for fasts, a two-track freight yard and a two-track stabling yard.

By the way next week I'll be in holiday and I'm looking for a skilled manager than can replace me for two weeks at the head of the RME. Are there any volunteers?

Midland Railway 1939

New game, called Midland Railway (no relation with the real railway company), set "somewhere" in the UK.

Sundale is the main city and boasts of three passenger and one freight terminals. At east there is Liverpool Street Station, north Paddington Station, west Victoria Station (yes, I've a lot of imagination when I give names...). All these stations are linked by a belt railway that runs through Bishopsgate freight yard.

From Sundale Liverpool Street trains bound for Plenstable, the second major city. Here there are just two stations: Central Station is on the southern side and serves passenger and mail trains; North Station overhangs on the opposite side of the city and it's the terminal of freight trains bringing in goods.

Deep into the woods is Waterfalls Junction where the Paddington line divides into three branches to Dunwell, Hereford and Great Whitdon Green. Moreover, here the long industrial spur to Windleigh Power Co. begins (it's the track leading to southeast).
