Well,i've just spent most of the afternoon working on it. Got all the suburban serviceoperating from Liverpool Street, most on the intercities running too....was looking good, when the game crashed...and the silly bugger that i am turned off autosave when i was doing something else earlier andforgot to turn it back on again...so i've lost a lot of it.

Ah well....if you're going to use a patch pack i suppose. If shared infrastructure gets updated or even into trunk i won't need the patchpacks...i can live without passenger destinations i suppose.(although that was actually running quite effciently just before the crash for once!)

Maybe i'll have another go later.

Well, I've rebuilt, remembered about Gimp, downloaded it and finally got some screenshots ready of the game i just blathered on about:

This is where it all starts for National Express East Anglia. London Liverpool Street. From here you can get intercity trains to Ipswich and Norwich, Cambridge and Kings Lynn as well as Cromer High, Great Yarmouth Southtown and Lowestoft. There may be one for Peterborough East soon as well. Also here are many EMU's serving East London suburbs and places in Essex.

Next is Ipswich. You can see the Great Yarmouth Southtown to Liverpool Street call in. Quite a few local services call in here as well as direct trains to Cambridge and Peterborough East.

And finally, one out in the sticks. This is Tivetshall where the Waveney Valley Line leaves the mainline. Here you can see a Great Yarmouth Southtown to Norwich Victoria waiting clearance onto the mainline as a Cromer High to Liverpool Street speeds past.

And three more:

This is Shenfield on the outskirts of Brentwood. Lots of commuter trains stop here while the intercities actually pass underneath the station.

Here is Cambridge. An intercity for Liverpool Street approaches while a commuter for Liverpool Street gets ready to depart. Cambridge has many local services too.

And finally, a view of Norwich Thorpe and Norwich Victoria. Here you can see a Liverpool Street train just leaving from Victoria while many local services and trains to Peterborough East call in at Thorpe station. Norwich City station is in the pipeline...but National Express won't own that one!

Heh, I bike along the old line to Norwich Victoria to get to work, don't look like that ;)

This has inspired me to actually recreate my East Anglia game but, well, the inspiration doesn't go as far as actually making the scenario

So here I am again with a new game using cargodest.

I'm starting small this time.

Started with one small passenger line in the middle of my map in 1920. Four stops on my line are Rayleigh, Tamworth, Chertsey and Shildon. A train connects the four towns and there is also a mail truck that runs between them. Each station also has facitilites for buses so other small towns can connect to the train. The railway will eventually expand westwards to a point where a mainline could start.

Here is one of the line at Shildon with our train picking up some passengers.

And here is the other end at Rayleigh with our mail truck crossing the track

And here is Chertsey station, which is turning into the most used on the route.

Thought i'd play around with some of the new features and got quite a nice result.

Been playing with cargodest, shared infrastructure and 2 admiral noai.

So the idea was that (and i use cheating by the way) was that my company controls the trains, one of the ai's controls busses and the other ai deals with trucks. Using cargodest and shared infrastructure, i thought i could work with the AI to create a fully intregrated transport system (I have to have my rail company make a few bus links linking the AI's bus routes to my stations)...wasn't sure how it would work out but its turned out quite well...here are some screenshots.

First up, Great Malvern...the bus AI started building here so i did too..and its easily grown into the largest city. My company provides a bus link from the station to Great Malvern central and the AI company will take passengers from there.
great malvern.PNG
great malvern.PNG (325.92 KiB) Viewed 1069 times
Next up is Grays Parkway, providing a park and ride service for Great Malvern. This is possibly the only example where i'm competing with the AI rather than working with them by offering the park and ride service.
grays parkway.PNG
grays parkway.PNG (99.19 KiB) Viewed 3498 times
And finally, an example of all 3 companies busy at work. My rail company, the AI's bus company running the tram lines and the AI's cargo company with a goods lorry.
3 companies.PNG
3 companies.PNG (179.2 KiB) Viewed 3507 times
So as you can see, my playing around with all these features seems to be working nicely. But now theres an updated build with passenger reduction patch, i might start a new game. The challenge in these games isn't about making money, its about seeing if i can provide enough connections between the AI's networks!

That looks pretty phenomenal :o - I actually didn't realise passengers could transfer across companies!

Now I can't wait to have a go with a friend

Yep, they can...in fact with cargodest any cargo can transfer from one company to another.

Cargodest and infrastructure sharing together makes for a really in depth and fantastic game...i really recommend it!

New game now, just playing around with stuff again.

No AI's this time, just me playing as different companies.

First thing in this game is working around the giant city of Oulton and making some suburban lines.

Here are the lines that run out to the east of the city from Oulton Whitchurch Street. Track and stations owned by the Department for Transport....trains owned by National Express.

I think you should, this all looks great, all very tightly wrapped by the city and realistic looking.

Here are some from a game i'm playing.

All based around the capital city St Philips. The purpose of this game is purely eyecandy and nothing else. I just want it to look good. So that means i've done a lot of things the pure gamers ate. I've cheated, i've mucked around on the scenario editor and i've used old train sets that were never completed and used stuff from it that i think looks good. So there!

Anyway, here are the screenshots:

Here is where class 365 or 465, (you choose) EMU's leave on suburban services from the city to the south coast.
St Philips Victoria Street.jpg
St Philips Victoria Street.jpg (62.5 KiB) Viewed 2661 times

Next, we leave the city and onto the West Coast mainline where stopping cl321's serve Beaconsfield...well almost..so a cl153 helps passengers complete the journey.
Beaconsfield Junction.jpg

And then back into the city...and somewhere for residents to get away from noisy railway lines.
