There are different views on efficiency possible though. You might view super junctions with optimal flow as highly efficient. But if there's not much gain over a simple level crossing (e.g when there's low traffic) it's a horribly inefficient way to allocate your financial resources. My advice on how to place PBS is at junctions where you want more then one train entering a small junction at the same time and use normal signals after the junction it's self (make sure that you leave enough room for a train to squeeze in).
So Lets say you want a one way 2 platform station with cross overs at both ends.
You want the PBS for trains going out of the station and normal signals after the crossover and no signals between the station and the crossover. (the PBS would stay red if both tracks are taken and if a track is free then the train would reserve the line eliminating another train from reserving the section track.) like Eddi had said earlier.

I used a station with two one-way platforms in a game the other day, instead of the usual bi-directional platforms. In this case, I made the PBS signals both face the direction of travel, so a train would stop just short of the platform. No crossovers needed in this design, which was important due to space concerns. Plus, it was the "B" station in an A-B-C-B mail & passenger route, so the trains were only going one way at a time without the need to reverse. (There were also trains running "express" from A-C, but they used a separate bypass track around city B.)

On single track I sometime use PBS signals witch can be driven throught... but you MUST give ON END of single track... I use them for one universal track for use by Fast and freight trains...
In September 1993 near Bombay, lightning hit a train full of women. And fifty of them in the confusion them jump on tracks, where a train in the opposite direction ran over them.

I don't think that is possible, you will have to have only 1 train on your single track at a time, there is no way the signal can tell which direction the train in the block its guarding is going and let more in the same direction.trainboy2004 wrote:Hey,

It can. Two trains can reserve paths to the signal on the two-way section at a time. They will both move to their respective safe waiting points, each side of that signal, and will wait there for each other. This will only clear up if you have set your config so that trains will reverse after a while of waiting, in which event you have no jam but you also have at least one train heading in completely the wrong direction.Gen.Sniper wrote:I think that idea can cause deadlock
If the section is as short as that one pictured, they'll reverse into their previous block, but such a short track doesn't warrant this layout. Longer stretches will make trains proceed down the track parallel to the one on which they arrived.
edit: Actually, let me retract that statement completely. The signal in the middle is two signals, which would mean overlapping reservations. Yes, it works, and no, it doesn't deadlock. My mistake; should have engaged my brain as I looked.

Try to place PBS on each end of the single track... I use them for long single track as overtaking and as help in heavy traffic....

Edit: Got it! Divided up a single track into three blocks with PBS:
The trick is to have the two signals in the middle face each other. Then a train waiting to enter the single track will wait until the leading train enters the more distant block before entering the first block. Once a train passes the second signal, it reserves a path past the junction, so no deadlocks.
Tried it with combo signals, but it caused deadlocks, and one train would not enter the single track until the other left, making the multiple blocks irrelevant.
