<Arrrgh> OK, once more for you, Owen:

1) Simply because "OTTD´s features" aren´t those things to be seen on the pictures, but "only" that part of code which allows to load "foreign" .grfs (e.g. mine aren´t "for OTTD", neither are part of it. Look into the donotreadmes, they´re "for TTDPatch").

"The average user who comes across OpenTTD" may be misleaded to think these things be part of OTTD, which they aren´t: the majority is part of TTDPatch, GPL´d or not doesn´t matter.

2) Screenshots like these have no special meaning for OTTD. They´re looking like from TTDPatch. Is that aimed for?

That´s another problem. Look under "copyright" ...

Well, apart from things like signals, track foundations and whatever else is in ttdpbasew.grf these days, the majority of GRFs don't "belong" to TTDPatch, either. Some of them have authors who'd prefer them to be used in TTDPatch, but many these days are designed with both games in mind. I see no reason why these can't be shown in the screenshots (perhaps with a caption saying "Screenshot showing [blah blah blah], using custom graphics sets").

As I said in my first answer just now, the majority of these "things" aren't part of either game. Some may have originally been designed with TTDPatch in mind, but they still work fine in OpenTTD, so why should they not be showcased.

For the most part, OpenTTD doesn't look much difference to TTD(Patch) anyway! Obviously, when the OpenTTD Graphics Replacement project is complete, things will look slightly different, but for the most part, the games do look very similar graphically. You could just as easily look at a TTDPatch screenshot and say "that looks like it's from OpenTTD".
michael blunck wrote:That´s another problem. Look under "copyright" ...
Well, yes, but in this case, "fair use" is probably applicable. And, in addition, the aforementioned graphics replacement project will hopefully be ready for one of the next major OpenTTD releases, and can be used in screenshots then.

So DBSetXL is part of TTDPatch? Last time I downloaded the TTDPatch stable it wasn't part of the package. NewGRFs are not a part of TTDP nor OpenTTD, except ttdpbase.grf, openttdd.grf and their respective Windows counterparts.

Furthermore, does "developed for Internet Explorer" mean that a screenshot of that website in Firefox is misleading? Or developed for "1024x768" screen resolution mean that a screenshot at 1280x800 is misleading?

But... given this argument screenshots of Wine, Mono and any random internet browser would be misleading as the application they are running or the website they are showing is not part of the application.

Ah! Nit-picking time. 8)

Well, legally it can´t, simply because TTDPatch is GPL but the DB Set isn´t. Technically, it is to a certain degree, because development of the DB Set and TTDPatch was synchronous ("hand in hand" 8) ) and the DB Sets can be downloaded from TTDPatch´s page of "official" .grfs. In addition, the DB Set (not XL, though) is even part of a TTDPatch "package", look here: http://www.ttdpatch.net/ ("All new graphics").
NewGRFs are not a part of TTDP nor OpenTTD [...]
Remko, you know what I meant, at least because I´ve already written it three times up to now.

Yes, i think, we do understand you, you don't want "OpenTTD" to "steal" the fancy NewGRFs from TTDPatch and present them as theirs.

No. I just want to avoid OTTD being suggestive of this behaviour.

Your both screenies look quite nice. AND Michael hasn't got anything to say (or very little) about them, because they use OpenGFX, which was/is developed for OpenTTD :)
It doesn't mean that we don't allow some other program with same (or more. Age is not relevant) capabilities to use them and take screens and perhaps even put them up somewhere. :P We are generally nice guys here Michael :)

Those last screens look nice :)
I'd suggest to hide the Station names, signs and similar things, so we can fully enjoy the beauty of OpenTTD ;)

Since the new Website is now online, i think it could really use some Screenshots newer than 0.5 :) , so here is one, with OpenGFX-only (+ OpenGFX new water features loaded).

What do you think? I can still change it... ;-)
Of course, you are free to use it without credits, if you wish to do so...

Nice, but what version should that screenshot promote? 0.7.0? It has an aqueduct in it.. ;)

Also, the stadium looks kind of funny. Hasn't Zephyris made another version of it where it doesn't look like the lower two tribunes are floating?

Hm, true, that would be r14325 ;-)
I used the latest trg*.grf replacements i could find, not all changes are already included. However, i can later easily load a new version and make a new Screenshot, if someone likes it ;)

michael blunck wrote:snipped vitriolic hatred of OpenTTD
Wow. Until today I never realised quite how much Blunck hates OpenTTD. Well, both Patch and OpenTTD are GPL software; a license which embodies freedom. Blunck clearly isn't on board with that, even in principle.

Despite the wording of his Readme files indicating that it's legal for me to play his newgrfs, and to distribute them along with his Readme, it's clear from his words on this thread that he considers use of the newgrf with OpenTTD to be, at the very least, distasteful. I shall honour his wishes, and will, with immediate effect, be removing his newgrfs from my OpenTTD server and the web page associated with it, and won't be advocating their use.

I'll miss the stations, Michael. You're really a very talented artist; it's a shame that this is overshadowed by your ranting. There are others, though, and I'm sure we'll all manage without your work.

Timitry: Would be nice if you also propose a descriptive text for the screenshot. All screenshots on the homepage has that and I'm sure that helps the process of getting it added if you have done that part to.

Perhaps raise the land where the aqueduct is and either bridge or tunnel the "highway"-road past it. So that it comply with 0.6.x. Best would be to do it completely in 0.6.x to make sure you don't include any features not available in 0.6.x.

Good that you've taken the initiative to make a screenshot for the 0.6.x section.
