Maybe you could use volumetric lights so the lights would produce a small "cloud of light" which would be big enough to be visible from rear...I hope you understand what I mean. I'm not sure if it would look good though.

Another idea would be to allow a bit of light to 'leak' backwards through a fissure in a cover... I'd probably have to draw it to make it understandable...

Edit: Here goes how I imagine it

Yes, You can have different files:
585_z1.png --> Maxiumm zoom
585_z0.png
585_z2.png --> Normal zoom

EDIT: New semaphores has been coded. :D
I assume you meant to say that _z0 is max zoom, not _z1?

I really like all the great graphics you guys are making here. I hope a lot of them result in sprites for the game soon!

About the electric signs:
I do agree you should see the colors from behind and the suggestion made seems good to me. For the ones where you see the sign from the side I think the light(casing) could perhaps be a bit bigger (in the left->right length /ie. depth), so it's better visible then too?
Though maybe it shows better when this is in game than on a white background.

Keep going all of you! I'm already playing with the little graphics there are (from the wiki)!

I have coded the 5/8 of the signals sprites. Now, I'm coding the semaphores.

Regarding wotan and commanderZ: for the original signal graphics, you couldn't see the lights either when the signal was facing directly away from you (N view). But for the NE and NW views you could, because TTD "cheats" a little bit as far as the perspective is concerned. Maybe this can be pulled off in 32bpp, too? I had a go at the signals once and found that by moving the signal lamps and lamp covers to the near edge, that you can still read the signal without losing the illusion that "everything looks normal"... just an idea. never finished those signals, though (wotan: yours are better and far more progressed anyway! :) ).

We can have two sets of signals with two TAR files.

There are some bugs in the offsets when a signal changes to red.

Hi all artists,
your work is amazing!

But from a gamer's point of view it is absolutely necessary to be able to see the type of the signal from all angles.
Perhaps you could turn the white and yellow bars and plates a little to the left/right in the sideview. And I remember in the real world, seeing traffic lights where the actual color could be seen from the rear because they have a little transparent spot or little extra lights on the back.

Maybe that could be a solution, if its graphically possible...

I have coded the waypoint. Many thanks Wotan!

Remember that you need two files: the GRF file and the TAR file.

Please consider using a different skin, or recolor it slightly. I see the same skin in many buildings. Stand alone they are superb, but in game it will be monotonous.

You can also put the GRF in the TAR, so only one file is needed.

I've been using 32bpp-zoom for a little bit now. I downloaded the 32bpp-zoom stuff I found on the wiki. When I got to electric tracks I got annoyed by the catenary. So I started fiddling around myself a bit, based on the dutchcatw.grf (because I couldn't find any catenary in the game's basic grfs, if anyone knows anything about this, let me know).

The pylons aren't that great, but at least more appealing than the normal ones at max zoom-in. I bet someone will make better graphics for this at some point, but until then feel free to use my pixel..stuff :P.

Feel free whatever you want to do with my graphics.

Btw, I see some screenshots with apparently more than the basic tracks that are in the Train.tar. Where did you get those from? I'd love to get a completer set. The ones in the Train.tar that I downloaded from the wiki also has an 'issue' with the horizontal track pieces. It seems as if they are a mirror/flip of each other, throwing off the shadow.

Ps. Yes, sometimes the wires are drawn over the pylons where they shouldn't. This doesn't seem to be completely logical though (I mentioned it in the Dutch Trainset Development thread)

Those signals and station buildings look nice (waiting for more 32bpp-zoom sprites to be replacing the 8bpp ones!).
When I place these station buildings as electric-track stations, they have catenary added over it.. I also find it funny that you can build any of those buildings over normal station track and a train will just run trough it. Though I guess that's just the way it works.

What I was wondering though, how did you get plain station platforms (without the default station building)? Or did you simply 'cheat' to get a nice screenshot and did you remove the extra parts?

When I look at the signals from the side (horizontal track), I can hardly distinguish between the normal and third signal type, as well as between the other two (2&4) pre-signals. If you look really closely you can see that the first one has no shadow and the others do. But I think that it could use a bit more. Is there any chance you could make those signs (yellow & gray) 3D instead of simply flat?

It is a problem of my NFO code :? But I don't know what is the correct value... I have tried with 00 and FF but It fails. I must find some examples of NFO code with non-track tiles.

Yes, I remove the default station building tile, or I build a empty tile over it.

Hmm I don't get that option. I guess it's some grf you're using that enables that.

Ah, thanks. Though I thought that would let one easily build platform-only station. But I'll just clear up myself for now. 32bpp-zoom could use some plain industry platforms :)...

Wotan,

I think you're doing a great job! Your meshes and textures are magnificent.

I just have one concern: creating a uniform look for the various graphics wrt shadows/lighting.

When you compare your shadows with some of Ben's graphics (eg on pavement), the steelmill, the tropical bank and some of the vehicles, your shadows are almost pitch black, and some of the other graphics show more detail/have softer shadows. I think your graphics look great, but when you look at the combined look, I would like you to consider to add some non shadowcasting filler lights on the dark/shadow sides.

It's not really a very big deal, but details like this can make the difference between goodlooking and absolutely smashing graphics.
