Both sound cool. I've played with the HOVS set which has Model T bus + truck (IIRC), but they are almost impossible to use profitably in my experience.

I like GRTVS, it plays well in game. It's not realistic, but that's not a major failing. If there was a similarly balanced, but realistic set using NA vehicles that would be great - I've seen suggestions about that in other threads, but nothing concrete to indicate anyone is working on one.

If we're talking CanSet companions, something I find intriguing is that Canadians use a lot of truck+pup combinations, which works much better with the articulated vehicle format in OTTD than semi-trucks. I'd also love to see some (slow but fun) Foremost off-road vehicles. But I guess that's going way off topic for this thread. Maybe I'll start a new one on possible NA / Canadian vehicles?

cheers,

Andy

I think I started an NA vehicle thread around somewhere. Maybe not. Hopefully the Canset will also have some earlier locos to take advantage of horses, but I agree we need a NA vehicles thread. Smaller trucks are harder to make a profit with, but bear in mind they diidnt' really go that far, and were mainly for moving goods from a rail terminal to houses and businesses.

I would be very welcome of any graphics contributions for earlier vehicles. I am planning at least 3 new pre 1950s vehicles for each cargo type - a horse-drawn, a "model T" style and a generic petrol-powered but slow model...

But then this set wouldn't be generic would it? Hence why Zephyris said Model-T style vehicles, i.e. something which does the same job but isn't actually a model T.

Hmm, I was about to start such a thread, then I thought of something that's more my style - arguing about White vs. Freightliner vs. Peterbilt vs. Kenworth isn't going to set my world on fire  Stay tuned for something...different.
(I'll start a new thread in the TT graphics forum) UPDATE: new thread here http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=37912

Yep, that's fine. I use a lot of short-route truck service for feeders, e.g. moving grain from 3 farms to 1 rail terminal, this allows:
  • Larger, more efficient trains by consolidating the output from several industries
  • Better industry ratings from frequent pickup by many small vehicles (not one occasional large train)
Also, trucks get used in town obviously. GRTVS is great because it can make profit on the above, plus long-haul highway service.

cheers,

Andy

Just because I called them "model T" in HOVS doesn't mean that those sprites irrevocably and distinctly represent a model T. :P You're welcome to use them, Zephyris.

Here are all the current early "Model T" trucks and such. The logging truck is designed to be articulated (due to the length of the cargo ;)) These are drawn by a combination of Pikka and Myself.

Hi all, I've had a bit of a version management disaster (i.e. the delete button) could someone post version 1.1 (and preferable 1.0 too) of GRVTS so I can put it back up for download?

On the subject of animated horses... I was aiming for a trot (see here) but it looks more like a gallop. I think this'll do for the horse-drawn vehicles, but I'm struggling to get it into perspective...

*edit* one of the colours is the same as the forum background, you may want to download this one...

Good start :D I've got a basic view of a walking horse in 4 views shrunk down from an image found online, they're very basic, but functional. When you're dealing with an animal 12 pixels long, it's hard to get it to look right. I'll post it when I'm at home

12px long actually seems rather big for a horse... the one I started work on is half that.

And the good thing is it's so tiny that you can't tell that the animation's crap. ;)

Hmmm, well it comes down to (as always!) realism vs clarity/style... This uses two of the horses, compressed to 10 px vertical height for perspective...

Would horse-drawn carriages would be articulated vehicles?

Would we get horses as a rail engine? Horse-drawn railways did exist after all.
EDIT: they were mostly horse-drawn passenger trams which died out around 1900. Not rail as such.
