I have no idea what possessed me to do it, but... I just built a sub-Arctic map based on those in the back of my copy of Lord of the Rings.
This is version 1.2 of the map, incidentally; I've currently a game in progress on the 1.0 version of the map, which had a few logical inconsistencies and gaps and things. Such as the entire area between Mordor and Esgaroth being completely blank. That's something I've kinda filled in.
Probably the biggest criticism of the map is that I seem to have squashed things a bit, a better size would have been 512x1024 but then there'd be a huge empty space in the far east.
Town names are slightly interchangeable with region names for aesthetic reasons. Because otherwise every station in Mordor would probably be called "Osgiliath Heights" or suchlike.
Also, the Fangorn woods straddle the mountains a bit too much to accommodate forests.
Industries are roughly where you might place them, so the Shire's mainly farmland, Isengard has a clump of manufacturing facilities (but only one easy path to get to them), Mordor's full of coal and oil, and there's gold in them thar hills!
And that's about it really.
Now for your thoughts!
