Bus Engine Drama

Post by WWTBAM »

At my school on the 3rd of March just after school finished one of the State Transit Authority buses started having engine troubles. The driver parked in the school's bus bay and then attempted to turn the engine off. The engine would not turn off. The bus was quickly engulfed in smoke. There were some flames and one or more of the tyres started burning. The fire brigade and ambulance were called. The fire was put out and no one was injured or suffered severe smoke inhalation including the bus driver. If I can get hold of some photos and permission from the student I will upload them. If any get uploaded to my school's website I will link to them.

Diesel engines can somtimes run away if for example the govener breaks,
even with no fuel they will burn the oil in the sump....

the only way to stop them is to cut off the air intake,
not easy if the front of your vehicle is engulfed in flames... :!: :!:
